Plot: "Quantum Of Solace" continues the high-octane adventures of James Bond (Daniel Craig) where it left off in "Casino Royale". Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth after the betrayal of his beloved Vesper, Bond and M (Judi Dench) interrogate Mr White (Jesper Christensen). Forensic intelligence links an MI6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where Bond meets the beautiful but feisty Camille (Olga Kurylenko), who leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a major force within the mysterious organisation known as Green Planet. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, Agent 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Greene's sinister plan and stop his organisation.
My Verdict:
Green Tea says:
What is so different from Casino Royale (CR) and the latest one by our hot hunk Daniel Craig's role as the Agent 007? Not much...I remembered that Casino Royale was a hit and deeply affefted my depth of sense and changed several of my perception towards that guy. QoS is the sequel and continuation of CR!! But in QoS, Bond found himself become even more emotionless and kill people as in First-Blood style. In this latest venture; no more whipping my balls, no more revenge-motivated hunt for the bad guy and certainly, no more Vesper Lynd. Too bad, the story-telling can be boring at time and good at another. The good thing is that the elements of emotions are still can be seen in QoS - as I said earlier become emotionless.
There are several issues here. The movie started with a bang of car-chasing but ended up short of the chase we sure love to see. With QoS, the car-chasing has turn into something pretty ordinary. In most of the other "chasing-scenes:, the WOW-factors are lacking as compared to CR. But the element of James Bond typical movie, fortunately still there - high action, tense and amazing stunts! Let's take the chase and ended up swinging on the rope scene...breathtaking!!

Otherwise, the story is a bit pale compared to CR. There are loopholes and I find that the pace is pretty much hard to catch but at least it explained well later. The pieces of stories can be tied up if you can be patiently waiting for it - it worth! No more terrorism issue to dealt with, but its more of the theme of environmentalism - a different aspect on how Bond had to deal with that.
Daniel Craig again is not disappointing. That justified what the critic had blasted on how awful Craig can be in CR. Yet, they are wrong. In QoS, he is still the most suitable choice to fit in Bond's shoes. Again, the critics are wrong. Judi as M is always been convincing too. Although limited time screen, she is the role model for been the 'MOMMY' of Bond. While Mathieu as Greene looked nerdy for a villain, he is still good. Bond girl's Gemma had a brief moment with Bond on bed but barely had much time screen - while Olga as Camille, the other bond girl is convincing but not memorable like any other Bond Girl whom will scream for help and Bond arrived in time to save them. She is a bit atypical, dependent, indecisive but is strange enough for been the choice. Will we see her in the next installment?
QoS is a movie in regards you will either love or hate it. Luckily it should be good movie although the expectation is not as good as CR. I kind of like it but the story can be a bit boring!! Therefore, to make yourself satisfy the story more, I reckon you to watch CR and QoS back-to-back to gain the momentum.

I definitely enjoy Casino Royale over this. I agreed that Daniel Craig is the guy to play Bond.
ReplyDeleteThe action sequence lacks the 'wow' factor. I felt dizzy following the action with jerky camera
