English (18SG) 20 NOVEMBER 2008
Distributor:Sony Pictures
Running Time: approx. 90 minutes
Director: John Erick Dowdle
Producer: Roy Lee, Doug Davidson, Sergio Aguero, Drew Dowdi, Carlos Fernandez, Julio Fernandez, Glenn Gainor
Writer: John Erick Dowdle, Drew Dowdle, Jaume Balaguero
Casts:Jennifer Carpenter, Steve Harris, Jay Hernandez, Jonathan Schaech
Plot: Jay Hernandez, Jennifer Carpenter, and Johnathon Schaech star in this remake of the Spanish-language horror film "[REC]", concerning a reporter and a cameraman who are trapped in a quarantined Los Angeles apartment building as a highly contagious rabies contaminant begins to infect the unsuspecting tenants.
My Verdict:
CASTS:
No major starpower are required, but the emotion shown by Jennifer Carpenter in this movie was convincing. She showed how distress, panic and adrenalin rush can be portrayed so perfectly by someone with little known. I think she execute her role very well. In fact, the other assemble of casts that include Jay Hernandez and Steve Harris are brilliant
STORY:
The things that makes it a stand out as comparison to other horror flicks over the years are: (1) Good story development and progress - it started out like a documentary on firemen, slowly turning into a subject of news and finally the truth and survival from a lethal virus. (2) Full non-stop horror blood gore - it may started out slow, spending about 20-25 minutes, to develop the initial bloodgore. It started with someone fell from the stairs and boom...the survival begins. (3) The psychological survival and horror works - seriously enduring this 90 minutes can be felt like 5 hours..you hope it ends sonn but you can't leave the cinema because you are curious about what will happen next.
CINEMATOGRAPHY:
One thing, this movie was shot in guerilla camera ala Cloverfield style but you will expect less or none nauseating moment. No headache and no puke!! Shaky camera is not a huge problem here.
The horror meter for this movie is so high that the artwork, although may lack from other big blockbusters; can be totally ignored. Enjoying the horror movie will never be the same again. Perhaps, this is the scariest true horror movie this year and also the best horror flick of the year.

Watched this movie for free - thanks to YOUTHSAYS.com!! A remake by an American company over foreign horror flick - is looks like a common phenomenon. From Asian to Spanish speaking of origin, there are plenty of those out there in the market. But what makes it so different and possibly make this movie stand on its own and distinguished from the others are amazing.CASTS:
