MARVEL ONCE, GOING TWICE, SOLD!!

On 31 August, while many (okay, not many) are celebrating Independence Day here in Malaysia, news from Hollywood broke out with an announcement by Disney that they had purchased Marvel for US$ 4 billion. The rival, DC, is of course has long been owned by Warner Bros, so expect a pretty much similar studio partnership.

Marvel has been co-operating with various studios over the year to produce some hits and misses. Spider-Man trilogy was distributed by Sony Pictures, while last year's Iron Man was by Paramount Pictures. The details of the deal have not yet been made public, and have to be confirmed under an antitrust review and by Marvel's shareholders, but there could be an eventual end to the deals with multiple studios that Marvel has made in the past.

It may be hard to evaluate whether this could bring a better prospect or another failure and misfire yet, as always, only times will tell. Certainly there are many implications and factors to see - especially the costs required to produce a super-heroes theme movie. So will Mickey Mouse be featured in future Spidey movie?
