SEX DRIVE

Comments

ENGLISH - (18PL) - 26 February 2009 - Comedy
Distributor: Summit Entertainment
Running time: about 111 mins.
Director: Sean Anders
Producers: Bob Levy, leslie Morgenstein, John Morris, Michael Nelson
Writers: Sean Anders, John Morris, Andy Behrens
Casts: Josh Zuckerman, Clark Duke, Amanda Crew, James Marsden, Seth Green
Plot: Eighteen-year-old Ian Lafferty (Josh Zuckerman) sets out on a cross country drive to Knoxville with his best friends Lance (Clark Duke) and Felicia (Amanda Crew), in order to lose his virginity to a red-hot babe he met on the Internet. But the journey, filled with hilarious misadventure and raunchy escapades, teaches all three more than they expected about life and love. Randy, raucous and unexpectedly romantic, "Sex Drive" follows three friends on the road trip of a lifetime!

THE VERDICT:

Green Tea says:

WARNING SPOILER! Roadtrip comedy seldom made impact and I would roughly say this one as well. However, what makes it standoff better is that it has better love storyline, lesser sexuality theme and witty comedy. Sex Drive is not the kind of sexual explicit movie you will ever think off. Yes, explicity exists but it was kept at an extent that the boundaries of comedy and the complicated love relationship overshadowed it pretty much.

The movie started as an 18-years-old high school teenager met this sexy hot girl via online. She challenged him to drive across the country to meet her. At first, he was reluctant but later after persuaded by his best buddy and later joined by another best buddy girl that he hoped to love with. (The girl was a tom-boyish, BFF) Together, the three firends embarked in a journey across the country to see the sexy girl in hope that the guy can 'threw; his virginity away. Along the roadtrip, they learnt something more valuable than just about sex - friendship and love.

The story was okay and easy to follow. Probably due to the censorship, the finalized version seems to have lesser explicity when compared to last year's "Forgetting Sarah Marshall". Nevertheless, it was not the sexuality that rules all. The better approach on the uniqueness pf platonic relationship was shown here. Not many movies showcase these kinds of relationship but the script was written in a sense that the uniqueness of platonic worked so well. Kudos!! Also, don't forget about the laughter. Gag and crude humour blends well within the characters well. The only down side is that it fails to bring a better ending. As usual, it was kind of lame but still acceptable. (Doughnut man holding a gun and shoot blindly!!??)

It was surprise to see the three best buddies - played as Ian (Josh Zuckerman), Felicia (Amanda Crew) and Lance (Clark Duke) were so gel well to each other. I like the way of their BFF developed so good in the movie. Besides the good chemistry, they gave up a good performance so well, especially Lance which was a surprise. Is he a new Jack Black? Seth Green as a sarcastic Armish was pretty decent and memorable. His role was an impact in shaping a better slapstick humour. James Mardsen however is over-act as Ian's big brother.

I generally think that this movie is worth a try. It is nicely fall into a middle between not so well and best - meaning over the average. Good dialogue, good theme exploration and good characterization - this is a milder version of American Pie, milder version of RoadTrip and milder version of 40-Year-Old Virgin. For some humour and good platonic relationship portrayal, try this...highly recommended.

VALKYRIE

Comments

ENGLISH - (PG13) - 12 February 2009 - Action/Drama/War
Distributor: MGM, United Artist, 20th Century Fox
Running time: about 120 mins.
Director: Bryan Singer
Producers: Christopher McQuarrie, Bryan Singer, Gilbert Adler, Chris Lee
Writers: Christopher McQuarrie, Nathan Alexander
Casts: Tom Cruise, Bill Nighy, Eddie Izzard, Terence Stamp, Tom Wilkinson
Plot: The "July 20 Plot" on Hitler's life is one of the most heroic but least known episodes of World War II. Severely wounded in combat, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg returns from Africa to join the German Resistance and help create Operation Valkyrie, a complex plan that will allow a shadow government to replace Hitler once he is dead. However fate and circumstance conspire to thrust Stauffenberg into an imminent ultimatum. Not only must he lead the coup and seize control of his nation's government, he must also kill Hitler himself.

THE VERDICT:

Green Tea says:

WARNING SPOILER! Is this film under-rated by us? I don't seems to know why people gave a low rating. Is it because the plot to kill Hitler failed or because Tom Cruise been too heroic that makes it a disgust. I can't really tell. For what follows, it may sounds not too bad, not too good. Or else I guess many disappointed for been labeled a war movie when the only one battle was seen early in the movie.

It was taglined as based on true story. With so many movies about Nazi and Holocaust been released over the past months; the other reviewed been "Defiance", the motion that Nazi can bring may lose it appeal. Over and over, the history told us the evil side of Nazi but never tell us the other side of them - even a coin has two sides. No matter how evil the Nazi is, the plot of assassination of the famous German figure was shown correctly here, despite there were 20 other attempts to kill Adolf Hitler himself.

Colonel Claus Von Stauffenberg was a nominal but heroic figure in World War 2 that we largely never knew who he was. He went back badly wounded from a battle in Tunisia with a determination to stop the violence the Nazis have for the war victim. Understandingly, he headline a group of people in a plot to kill Adolf Hitler in which he almost created the history. The famous coup was known forever as "Operation Valkyrie - Plot July 20". Valkyrie was taken from its name for the Operation Valkyrie in which it was used during the military emergency Hitler used to protect himself.

The story was good but a little underdeveloped. The focus of the story was of course mailnly on the plot designation of the attempt itself. It largely ignored the fundamental need for character development. It was a great use of dialogue although I was annoyed by their attempt to use a heavy German accent which doesn't seems to work. The movie of course cannot run away from the portrayal of the evil Nazi and its Fuhrer, adolf Hitler. One more Nazi movie after this will kind of bored to doom, in which luckily I survived the boredom.

Tom cruise isn't the hype. Sometimes we feel sympathy over his role and the rest of his cliche which have worked so hard but of course according to the true story, his plan succumbed due to bad timing and confusion during execution. Bill Nighy, one of my favourite British actor at the moment has back and his performance was competent and rich in boldness. Been a sidekick, he was awesome.

The setting of the movie will be highly praised. I like the set up of the ministry, the Nazi camp and the battlefield in Tunisia. Also, I love their outfit that they wore during the movie. It was great that the great art cinematography and direction were made use to the fullness. However, this is not a movie for people who rather not paying anything around RM7 to watch something historical. do remind you, the story of heroic Von Stauffenberg cannot be fliped through the pages of your History Textbook. It doesn't have the V For Vendetta stylish actioner but it would be just nice.

TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN OFFICIAL TRAILER

Comments
GREEN TEA WORLD!! will be updating the Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen trailer again. After the World Premier of the teaser (click in case you haven't watched it) during the Super Bowl event back in 1st February, the much anticipated first Official Trailer of the movie was released during the President Day Holiday last weekend in the United States. Many have watched the trailer and it seems to be more detailed than the initial teaser itself.

Followings are my review and commentary based on the official trailer, with much aids from the online encyclopeadia Wikipedia site and the Youtube user apnatv7HD's posted video about the commentary.

WATCH CAREFULLY, PAUSE AND PLAY AS INSTRUCTED POINT AT THE MOVIE AND HAVE FUN....(Click to enlarge the pictures for better view)

00:12 - 00:21 A scene where the first 'asteroid' event was seen. A man was pointing at the 2 asteroids as there passed by. One of it hit a tower. 2 robots!! Could it be the reference to Mudflap and Skids, a twin Autobots that may transform into an ice-cream van?

00:30 - 00:33
The second 'asteroid' event. Another 4 are seen to been crashing on the desert somewhere in Egypt with the Pyramid as the background. Hey, what were they doing in Egypt?

00:34 - 00:49
The third 'asteroid' event where approximately 5 were heading towards a herd of cruising battleship. Later 3 of them crashed one of the battleship and it sank into the deep ocean. These could be the reference to The Constructicons.

Now take a deep breath and do this very slowly and carefully. This is the hardest part.
00:51 A robot crashed a building. 2 men were sitting; 1 was terrified and notice the bald man whom was still sitting calmly. Very funny baldie!!

00:52 The same robot rolled out of the building. It has a red eyes, indicating a Decepticon. Later it transformed into an Audi (based on the logo seen). Slow down at somewhere between 00:54 - 00:56, you will see the Audi logo of 4 rings. Hey, that Audi was Sideways.

00:56 You should play it real slow during this sequence of the rolling Audi. Slowly I believe you will be able to spot 'a robot figure' on top of the passing Audi. See it? Here is the figure.

Also 00:56 At the same time, right after the Audi had passed by, you will notice three robotic figures, presumably were chasing after the Audi. On the left, it was an obvious pink motorcycle - that was a part of Arcee, I swear!! The three figures will eventually unite to form the real Arcee.

Now let's move on...the Audi made an escape...Next...
01:03 - 01:07 A sequence where a robot transforming with several armed men approaching it. The transformed robot caused a massive destruction. Could that be The Constructicons? It was supposed to very tall and big size due to it was a combination of 6 robots. So you asked earlier that there were only 5 asteroids. Well, it so happened that it fall into the ocean and another one will be the resurrected Devastator from the first movie? Can it be.

After that it is the scene where the simple conversation between Sam and his father; followed by a shocking Mikaela and Sam.

01:19 A micro-robotic figure - wingless because Sam pull of its wing.

01:27 - 01:28 Sam was over-powered by a robotic claw or arm...Could this be Starscream?

01:29 Bumblebee!!

01:33 - 01:34 Scorpionok coming to attack an Autobots, which is said to be Jetfire.

01:36 An one-eyed jaguar or dog-like robot. According to Wikipedia source, this is Ravage, a minion of Soundwave. It fit the descriptions.

01:38 Optimus Prime been knocked by an unknown opponent!!

01:39 A Decepticons with the soldiers been stumbled seeing it.

01:40 A new character, a guy accompanying Mikaela here. The character is called Leo Spitz, played by Ramon Rodriguez

01:41 - 01:45 You see the same robot that transformed and caused explosion earlier at 01:03. This time clearly there were two wires attached to it.

01:48 The interesting part when Optimus Prime arrive and trying to stop the 2-wheel robot.

Now, let's get our vision sharper and look carefully
01:49 Arcee the pink motor-robot on the same highway as the one used by Optimus.

Following that until the end, Optimus Prime transformed and the highway was destroyed.

- THE END -

So, how was it? Fun? Very analytical for my review on the trailer this time. Do have fun and enjoy. GREEN TEA WORLD!! is anticipating the release of the movie. Who doesn't?

THE PUNISHER: WAR ZONE

Comments
ENGLISH - (18SG) - 19 February 2009 - Action/Thriller
Distributor: LionsGate
Running time: about 107 mins.
Director: Lexi Alexander
Producers: Avi Arad, Gale Anne Hurd
Writers: Nick Santora, Matt Holloway, Arthur Marcum
Casts: Ray Stevenson, Dominic West, Julie Benz, Wayne Knight, Dash Mihok, Doug Hutchison, Colin Salmon
Plot: Waging his one-man war on the world of organised crime, ruthless vigilante-hero Frank Castle sets his sights on overeager mob boss Billy Russoti. After Russoti is left horribly disfigured by Castle, he sets out for vengeance under his new alias - Jigsaw. With the "Punisher Task Force" hot on his trail and the FBI unable to take Jigsaw in, Frank must stand up to the formidable army that Jigsaw has recruited before more of his evil deeds go unpunished.

THE VERDICT:

Green Tea says:

WARNING SPOILER! There is a good thing that I didn't watched it during Nuffnang screening because the movie is not as good as I hope so. Watched it well before the screening actually, so those who claimed had watched it 10 days before the others, not really. First time watching it I kind of out of word on what to write because I didn't remember. This explain why I didn't post it up last month and I joined my friend to watch it today (19/02) to gain back the memory. This tells you one thing - this movie is forgettable.

This is not a sequel from the last The Punisher when John Travolta in another bad guy suit. Its a reboot in a form of The Incredible Hulk. The Punisher: War Zone continues his styles of massacaring all the mobster in town. This time he is on a mission to fight Billy Russoti, a mob that owns a dock shipyard. In his one man fight against the ugly faced Billy, which later called himself Jigsaw and his psychopath killing brother, Loony Bin Jim, Frank Castle must stay in focus to stay ahead of them while they are trying to get their money stolen and gone missing by a deceased federal agent undercover.

The plot display a very familiar theme of revenge and gunfight. This time it is gorier than the first one. Heads been chopped and burst under machine gun fires, people been dumped and broke their neck, a jumping monkey destroyed by some mini missles. Was that a joke or what? The plot story was thin and centred too much about kidnapping and revenge. The dialogue was fine as it was just another old-fashioned and typical stylish actioner that used revenge as the main theme. However, I was rather impressed by its use of action way killing people ala Counter Strikes. At least it looks more realistic and very high intense in action. There is a little emotion flow in the movie but still its brutally violent.

Ray Stevenson as The Punisher has its good and bad. The good thing - I think he is a perfect candidate for the role. He possessed those charismas that resembled Steven Seagal which was macho. Let's called him another Macho Man on the killing spree. However, I think that he was too woody, stocky and stiff. Been too stiff doesn't gave him the impression as in the comic book although his character was rather stayed loyal to the comic. The rest of the casts were nominal and minimal in contributing to the movie. I personally thought Jigsaw was not really amazed me while his weird brother was just another distraction.

I bet watching in DVD or in other format and watching it in cinema gave a similar experience. Only it would be gory and more violent in the DVD. All thanks to the good job (pfftt) done by the editing at the Lembaga Penapisan Filem. All the mood and gore gone!! If you really want to watch it, I won't stop you. Go ahead and tell me if you think this is better or just the same like the first Punisher. Seriously, the punishing is hard to do.

81st OSCAR FINAL WINNER LIST

Comments
Looks like my job at Starbucks have finished. All the envelopes has been opened and the question for the million dollar question has been solved. To sum it all up, it was a rather expected and less surprising Oscar of the decade. I was quite happy with the features although the controversies surrounding the final nomination lists maybe something out of my hand.

Anyway, for the million dollar question of WHO IS THE BIGGEST WINNER?

This year's Academy Awards has yet to spawn any surprises. The only major setbacks are the failure of certain films and celebrities been snubbed off the nominations although the films like The Dark knight, Gran Torino, Wall-E or others deserved more spots on the major categories. Nevertheless, most that I predicted when all out right. (The prediction link that I have made is here)

ROLE MODELS

Comments

ENGLISH - (PG13) - 26 February 2009 - Comedy
Distributor: Universal Pictures
Running time: about 99 mins.
Director: David Wain
Producers: Luke Greenfield, Mary Parent
Writers: David Wain, Timothy Dowling, Paul Rudd, Ken Marino
Casts: Paul Rudd, Seann William Scott, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bobb'e J Thompson, Elizabeth Banks
Plot: Danny and Wheeler are two salesmen who trash a company truck on an energy drink-fuelled bender. Upon their arrest, the court gives them two choices: do hard time or spend 150 service hours in a mentorship program. After just one day with the kids, jail doesn't look half bad. If they can just make it through probation without getting thrown in jail, the world's worst role models will prove that sometimes it takes a village idiot to raise a child.
THE VERDICT:

Green Tea says:

WARNING SPOILER! Want to have a movie that will corrupt your mind, plus giving some dark humour growing up adoloscent comedy? Role Model is a movie that fit it in. Remember when you have Superbad, Juno and Drillbit Taylor? Those are just another movie that deal with the feeling of growing up and a step into the adulthood. There is no Mr Judd Apatow in this movie, none at all, but one can feel the similar aura surrounding this movie.

Role Model is a movie about two best buddies caught into trouble for their failure in anger management. Because of that, they were slapped with prison term initially but was later given a 150-hour community service under the judge-preffered some charity organization. There they need to be a baby-sit two troubled kids - one a foul-mouthed kid whom obssessed with 'boobs' and another nerdy whom obssessed with role-action-live-fantasy club.

Looking at the corrupted story plot, I can imagine many may not find this movie funny at all although been labelled as one of the best comedy movie in 2008 by Rotten Tomatoes. Read their lines again, carefully, I am sure that somewhere the comedic humour will come out. American jokes or British jokes, it's kind of hard to get through our thick skull. But here's the thing, it is not the humour that become the essence of core here. Although I would think that the dialogue was avergae and may get slurpy the essence in providing the right theme of story-telling at the right time was good. For instance, you learnt why coffee was categorized in sizes of Tall, Grande and Venti.

Paul Rudd is like another Set Rogen, or another Owen Wilson. He was a great comedian like them and his performance as a very pessissmist character was good. On the opposite role, Seann was a happy-go-lucky role. Two opposite characters get in very well. GFresh from his recent success in Superbad, Christopher is another bright star. Despite his uncharmed nerdy look, he did the role well and another one that I should mentioned was Bobb'e with his foul-mouthed scripts. He is kind of love it or hate it type of character but he put away those issues with his natural comedy.

No CGIs, no marketing that costs millions of bucks - this is an average movie that will bring shines on your life. If you like Superbad for been bad and naughty little teenager in exploring adulthood or Drillbit Taylor for common bullied issues, here is another one for you. It may not be the best comedy but this is a great movie to learn some lesson in life. Yet, it's another average comedy.

BEDTIME STORIES

Comments

ENGLISH - (U) - 31 December 2008 - Adventure/Comedy/Fantasy
Distributor: Buena Vista
Running time: about 100 mins.
Director: Adam Shankman
Producers: Adam Sandler, Andrew Gunn, Jack Giarraputo
Writers: Matt Lopez, Tim Herlihy
Casts: Adam Sandler, Keri Russell, Guy Pearce, Russell Brand, Richard Griffiths
Plot: Fantasy and reality collide when a hotel handyman, Skeeter Bronson (played by Adam Sandler) reluctantly agrees to look after his niece and nephew in order to help his sister out. To keep them quiet, he resorts to storytelling and in doing so, unwittingly opens the door to their vivid imaginations. Skeeter soon realises that the events in the fantasy world seemed to be strangely mirrored in his own life. Ultimately, the kids have the last laugh as it is their make-believe bedtime stories that magically come true, much to their uncle's surprise.

THE VERDICT:

Green Tea says:

WARNING SPOILER! Adam Sandler new outing in a comedy but more towards a famil friendly-oriented manner seems to fail to build up a good and strong essence of story. Inkheart is another type of similar premise of story comes alive but seems to have slightly over the edge of this movie. Although it was fun to see and cute to watch, the movie lacked of logical base story and relied too much on its awesomeness in effects, magic and fantasy.

Bedtime Stories, as like Inkheart tells a story of a hotel leader with an ability to tell a story and with a little addition from his nephews, the story of reality and fantasy becomes alive and reality in the next day. At the same time, a little conflict regarding the closure of the school his sister and the disagreement within the hotel management also forms some plot on the story.

Adam Sandler is always fun and entertaining. Credits for his natural humour and stand up comedic performance that he had. However, the characterization was again disappointing. Poor character development and audience didn't seem to get connected to the character that much. Still, it was a big assemble of casts we have here. Kudos for Keri Russell in her yet another praised performance as Jill. It would be something awkward to see Adam and her been a lovely couple though.

As mention earlier, the story was illogical and baseless, but contained highly imaginative and fantasy-adhered ride. It was an average result. The best thing was the fantasy story ranged from a different span of time - ancient Greek, Medieval Western and towards the future.

Needless to say, the effects were realistic and great. It provided little help in bringing the story alive. The cinematography was an okay standard to be compared with. The great CGIs helped to bring a vivid colour and atmosphere especially to the ending.
