MOVIE REVIEW: CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS

Comments

ENGLISH - U - 15 October 2009 - Animation/Family
Distributor: Sony Pictures
Running Time: 91 mins.
Directors: Phil Lord, Christopher Miller
Producer: Pam Marsden
Writers: (Screenplay) Phil Lord, Christopher Miller; (Book) Judi Barrett, Ron Barrett
Starring: Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Neil Patrick Harris, James Caan, Bruce Campbell, Andy Samberg
Plot: Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) always wanted to invent something awesome. When the town’s economy fell, it left the town in hard times, leaving sardines as the only food in Swallow Falls. Flint finally comes up with an invention that converts water into food. People begin to praise Flint's invention and ask him for requests of food to rain down. However, things becoming only worst when the machine Flint built is now out of control.

The Verdict:

Green Tea Bern says:

Desiring for some sphagetti and pizza? Here you have some, introducing a concept that is out of this world, with pizza, meatballs and even ice-creams all in the rain. Loosely based on the children book of the same title, the animated silver screen serves a delicious yet yummy ride for the auidience.

Plot-wise, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs offers a great insightful of weird, crazy and wild ideas. Making food from a rain is something unique, something different perspective subject matter to make into a film. Thus, the movie is intelligently playful and consistently derives the absolute fantasy and imaginations to the greater level while retaining the huge degree of engagement.

Besides the interesting themes, the plot is well-paced and yet fast at the same time. It gives a condense story-telling and does not have dragging scenes to bore the audience. Nevertheless, the plot comes with a mouth-watering 3D technology that will make the audience impressed so much for its animated features.

While the joyride has always been fun, it is still a clear differences between the first part and the latter part of the movie. The first part is presented with great acknowledgement and wild fantasy that gives plenty of enjoyment. For the second part, the story goes down with the uninspiring finale on how to dismantle the problem.

The casts of B-rated stars headlined by the pretty impressive Bill Hader as the main character of Flint Lockwood. The characterization was ample for his, while the wild, crazy and humor sides are equally divided to make this character balance. Another praise for Anna Faris whom despite been comedic and non-sense in Scary Movie films, she is less irritating and easier to chew in this movie.

While the effects are exhilirating, the 3D scenes are simply breathtaking. If you have not see this movie yet, go and catch it in 3D because the satisfying notes and the WOW-factors are a guarantee. This may not be an animation for many, but this is a great animation to endure with. Still fancy for meatball sphagetti?

IT IS SO FUCKING ENGAGED!!

Comments

Forgive me for the title but apparently that is the current title for the upcoming "raunchy" romatic-comedy starring Jessica Biel. Now you know that Ms Biel is very busy chasing The A-Team on the set. Although the title sounds pretty much offensive for the Malaysian censorship - Fucking Engaged, I can bet that the name itself will change after this.

According to EO, "The premise is that Biel and her fiance, facing their wedding day and terrified of turning into their boring parents, vow to make sweet love every single day until the big event."

Although the production claims that this is purely original, it has some resemblance with Let's Do It, a book by Annie and Doug Brown's book that was published last year about reigniting the spark in their marriage by having sex every day for 100 days. (Except that Annie and Doug had been married for thirteen years)

Julia Brownell will write the screenplay with Dan Halstead (Garden State) produces under FilmNation Entertainment production house.

TONY SCOTT WILL GO CHIPPENDALES

Comments

The Unstoppable project has now been called off, Tony Scott has announced his next move yet again, not to be confused with his brother Ridley Scott, who is embarking the Alien Prequel.

The new project, a Chippendales movie is based on 1980s male stripping phenomenon. The story is created and developed by Steve Banerjee.

According to EO, "The film will be Banerjee's story. Starting out running gas stations and mudwrestling clubs, he hit paydirt when he came up with the idea of presenting male strippers in a choreographed, brand-named touring fantasy show. But behind the success was a catalogue of lawsuits and mad paranoia, culminating in Banerjee paying a hitman to have original 'dales choreographer Nick DeNoia murdered. Denied bail following evidence that he'd made arrangements to flee to India in a private plane, Banerjee hung himself in his cell, hours before his sentencing."

Lisa Schrager, famous for the Heidi Fleiss biopic, Pay The Girl will write the script. Due to the nature of sex and violence, I doubt this movie will come to Malaysia when all are ready.

TRAILERS FOR GREEN ZONE, CRACKS, INVICTUS

Comments
GREEN ZONE

As featured before in the post regarding updates on Universal Pictures' 2010 briefing, Green Zone, an upcoming war film by the acclaimed director Paul Greengrass. The film is based on the 2006 book Imperial Life in the Emerald City by journalist Rajiv Chandrasekaran which is based in Green Zone, Bagdad. It stars Matt Damon, Amy Ryan, Greg Kinnear, and Brendan Gleeson.

Debuting online is the first teaser trailer (supposedly). Green Zone tells the story of Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller (Damon) who is a rogue U.S. Army officer who must hunt through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil before war escalates in an unstable region. The film will be released on March 12, 2010 in Stateside.

CRACKS

The daughter of Ridley Scott will have her own movie in the making soon. Jordan Scott’s debut film is an adpatation of Sheila Kohler’s novel Cracks, adapted by the director and Brit TV stalwarts Ben Court and Caroline Ip. It stars Eva Green as teacher in an all-girls school in 1930s who gets drawn into an inappropriate relationship.

The movie will be released in December 4 in United Kingdom. Apparently her first film is pretty much an independence type. Optimum Releasing holds the movie for UK market while Studio Canal handles France market.

INVICTUS

Been a frontrunner for this season's Oscar, the hype for this movie is still not loud yet. But to ensure things getting loud, here is a piece from its trailer. This comes just days after the revealed movie poster.

Warner Bros has released the first trailer for Clint Eastwood’s new film Invictus, which tells the “inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela joined forces with the captain of South Africa’s rugby team, Francois Pienaar, to help unite their country.” Matt Damon plays Pienaar, and Morgan Freeman plays Mandela.

BAD LIEUTENANT MAY OPT FOR DVD RELEASE INSTEAD?

Comments

Those who have seen it claimed it was good. Some even hailed the movie as the ressurection for Nicolas Cage's career. Some were even impressed by the the marketing material and clips for the movie.

However, there is a problem. Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans may not see a wide release, according the movie studio, First Look Pictures. Instead, they are planning for a rush into DVD/Blu Ray form as early as February 2010.

What a waste you may expect. The film was fueled with awesomeness that follow from what a cult classic the predecessor similar title and Havey Keitel starring Bad Lieutenant are.

"It also exemplifies Cage’s eccentric filmography as shotgunned into a trashy, art house B-movie with crossover potential. Not to mention that, in addition to Kilmer, the supporting cast is quite recognizable and usually game to get nuts: Eve Mendes as the love interest (i.e. she was hired to blankly nod, which is fine), Jennifer Coolidge (Party Down), Fairuza Balk (The Craft), Brad Dourif (Deadwood, Halloween 2), and Michael Shannon (the way underrated Bug, also recently cast Kim Foley in the upcoming The Runaways)." - (Opinioned by Slash Film)

Currently, the film is only set to open in L.A. and NYC on November 20th, though Chicago and San Francisco also seem in the mix.

SHORT CIRCUIT IN REMAKE MOTION

Comments

Variety and EO reported that Steve Carr, the director for comedy hits like Paul Blart Mall Cop, Daddy Day Care, Rebound and Dr Dolittle 2 will embark on his next project - a remake of Short Circuit. This will be a tough test to endure.

If the original John Badham's Short Circuit which is considered as a cult classic, telling a story about a robot named Johnny 5 who is imbued with sentience by a rogue lightning bolt. On the run from the military, Johnny 5 bonds with Ally Sheedy, and hilarious adventures are had by all.

Variety reported that the director prefers the movie to go on the similar premise as the original but the bond with Ally Sheedy is to be replaced with a young boy. Talking about additional emotional recipes in it?

Dan Milano wrote the script for the Dimension film.

KIERA KNIGHTLEY IS MY FAIR LADY

Comments

It seems that the news comes in just to confirm everything. While rumours has that Kiera Knightley is set to star in the adaption from the famous musical play by George Bernard Shaw - My Fair Lady, it is now affirmed that she will star as Eliza Doolittle in a redo of that movie.

Re-teaming with Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice, Indian Summer is on-hold due to financial crunch), My Fair Lady is of course about Eliza Doolittle who is taken under the wing of Professor 'Enry 'Iggins.

Not so with Keira, who's been taking singing lessons, and won the role despite stiff competition from Scarlett Johansson. Emma Thompson is writing the script, and Daniel Craig has been mooted as Higgins. Wouldn't that be luvverly?

SYLVESTER STALLONE PLANS ROCKY 7?

Comments

Sylvester Stallone is planning to develop another film in his other iconic franchise - Rocky. Now that is Rocky 7 if you have lost your count.

Now that Sly will finished his production on The Expendable soon while Rambo 5 has been given a greenlight to move ahead, news come in as interesting as it is that Rocky 7 will follow after that. Ironically, Sly's magical franchise just never die.

"When I was 21 years old and at drama school. My teacher said to me, ‘If you ever put your head out there, thousands of people will try to cut it off, but that’s exactly what you need to do as an artist.’ “I know it’s ludicrous and everyone would laugh. I would laugh about it. But I also know that I’d be successful if I can make this a film about becoming older, not about boxing but about myself."

It is just a miracle one when one consider that Rocky Balboa (Rocky 6) back in 2006 or so was a well-received one. Even when his age is closing near the dawn, he is still keeping a body that would allow him to do everything else. A legend of course.

COLUMBIA PICTURES AND THE SOMALI PIRATES?

Comments
According to source on Variety and EO, Billy Ray (State of Play, Flightplan) will write about the Somali pirates. The planned drama will be based on the real life events following Columbia's acquisation of upcoming (next spring) memoir by Captain Richard Phillips.

The memoir entitled "A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs and Five Dangerous Days" will be published by Hyperion.

"The cargo ship Maersk Alabama was boarded and hijacked by four Somali pirates, on its way to Mombasa. The crew were able to resist to some extent, but the pirates escaped on a 28ft lifeboat with Captain Richard Phillips as hostage. A standoff with the US Navy ensued, during which Phillips almost managed to swim for it at one point. But the siege ultimately ended with three of the pirates shot dead and the fourth, on board the USS Bainbridge negotiating a ransom, taken into custody; the first time a pirate has been taken by the US Navy since the 1800s." - EO

Michael De Luca, Kevin Spacey, Dana Brunetti and Scott Rudin are set to produce.

DREAMWORKS TO DEVELOP WICKED

Comments

Like Twilight, Wicked is another teen series based on the five-book series written by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie. Wicked tells the tale of Holly Canthers, a teenager who discovers her origin as one of the decendant of a coven witches.

DreamWorks has picked up the rights for the series and attaching Aaron and Matthew Benay to write the adapted film for the best-selling books.

Wicked series comprised of Witch, Curse, Legacy, Spellbound and Ressurrection. The Gotham Group, the production house behind The Spiderwick Chronicles, will be ensuring things go according to plan.

NICKELODEON BOUGHT NINJA TURTLES FOR NEW INSTALLMENT

Comments

Mirage, the company that owns the rights for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has sold its exclusive rights to Viacom's Nickelodeon for a transaction costed at US$ 60 million. Therefore, the heroes in the half shells have found their new home.

With the new home, Nickelodeon is now planning a new feature film aiming for 2012 release. This will definitely under Paramount Pictures umbrella. However, it is uncertain yet whether the new film will be in CG form like the one we have in 2007 or merely a return to the live-action forms.

Nickelodeon is also planning for a CG-animated TV series to run along side with it.

"The Turtles were created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman in 1984, and were four baby turtles mutated by toxic waste into human-sized, intelligent (well, maybe not Michelangelo) creatures. Their mutated rat mentor Splinter named them after Renaissance artists (Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael) and taught them martial arts, which they use against bad guy Shredder and his henchmen." - EO

So, what say you? CG or live-action?

INVICTUS HAS A NEW POSTER AND WOLFMAN HAS A NEW TRAILER

Comments
Placing these two news under the same tag here would be appropriate.

Empire Online and Yahoo Movie have presented the audience with a poster for the upcoming Matt Damon - Morgan Freeman - Clint Eastwood drama about South Africa and the unity, Invictus.

According to Wikipedia, the feature film will based on Nelson Mandela's life during the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa. Directed by Clint Eastwood, the film stars Morgan Freeman as the then South African President Mandela, and Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar, the South African team captain. The story is based on the John Carlin book Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Changed a Nation. The film is due for release on December 11, 2009, and is considered a "front-runner" for several Academy Awards.

Talking about the Oscar buzz, the movie is on the move for next year's Oscar season now. But one thing I would like to ask, why showing Morgan Freeman's back?

The next piece of news is about the new release trailer for The Wolfman.

With the Benicio del Toro and Anthony Hopkins will be a feature in this blood-sucking howling action, what can you ask for more? Green Tea World has featured the first trailer at here before, just in case you want some thrills.

Been pushing backward from the original November release, audiences will have to wait till February 2010 for it. By the way, did Anthony Hopkins stole the limelight in the trailer?

FIRST LOOK ON THE A TEAM WITH THEIR NEW POSTER STILLS

Comments
Just in case you have never heard of The A Team, don't worry as I never heard of it either. Just kidding!!

WHAT'S NEXT FOR NEILL BLOMKAMP

Comments
Neil Blomkamp created cinematic revolutionary, if that is what you wanna labelled the phenomenon District 9 back in August. The film did not only make it to cover the production cost in first three days screening in domestic, but it went on to rake in US$ 115 million so far. District 9 has been an eye-opener to showcase the many lights of the bunch of talented young directors.

Green Tea Movie came across this new excerpts from Variety and Slash Film - Media Rights Capital has committed to fund District 9 filmmaker Neill Blomkamp's next film. The news came with no surprise since Blomkamp has once said, "I’ve got one science fiction idea that I’m absolutely in love with, which I’m pretty sure is going to be my next film. 99% sure…It’s totally original, it’s my own story…It’s set on another planet, but it’s cool. It’s violent, very violent, and very unique hopefully. We’ll see."

The new film will be again a sci-fi film, but the words about it are still pretty much wrapped well. The untitled science fiction flick will set on another planet and it has nothing to do with Christopher Johnson or the District 9 universe.

“Hopefully, this will be a bit unique, very much a reflection of me. It is absolutely another science fiction film, quite different from `District 9,’ but some of the blending of genres and the tone might be within the same realm.”

Bill Block has been tipped to produce and the production will cost a little bit north of District 9's US$ 30 million. The filmmaker plans to immediately start writing and prepping the visual effects for the film, which will begin production by the middle of next year. A distributor will be found at that time. Blomkamp definitely has an option to make a District 9 sequel afterwards if that is what he wants. - (/Film)

INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS

Comments

ENGLISH - (18PL) - 22 October 2009 - War/Action/Western
Distributor: Universal Pictures, Weinstein Company
Running Time: 152 minutes
Director: Quentin Tarantino
Producers: Lawrence Bender
Writer: Quentin Tarantino
Starring: Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Michael Fassbender, Eli Roth, Diane Kruger, Daniel Bruhl, Til Schweiger, Melanie Laurent
Plot: ."Inglourious Basterds" begins in German-occupied France, where Shosanna Dreyfus (Melanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). She narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) organises a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of vengeance. Known to their enemy as "The Basterds," Raine's squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquee, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own.

THE VERDICT

Green Tea Bern Says:

What is more interesting than seeing Adolf Hitler in a silver screen again? I know that this subject matter of the eternal figure for evil-axis is becoming fatigue to viewers, but there is a room for more with some extra little taste of rewriting the whole history? Would it be a centre for all sorts of attractions that excites the Tarratino’s fans? Well, in early description - Quentin Taratino did the jobs well and he explores the Nazi-combating mission in a weird yet entertaining methods.

In Inglourious Basterds, you may need to learn what is spaghetti western genre means. I seriously do not know either. When anything by Quentin Tarantino looks good, it is indeed good.

Plot-wise, it is not difficult to distinguish this Tarratino's movie from the rest of his visionary archives. Like Kill Bill, Inglourious Basterds is genius and engineered with the modules of storyboard-like story-telling styles. The movie is divided into five different chapters with each conceptually different while retelling the accounts envisioned from different vantage points but are all related to form a union story plot for the second half. Chapter one and two provide much entertainment and great introductions to begin with. However, chapter three was quite unnecessary and too lengthy. Otherwise, the final chapters come back very solid.

Inglourious Basterds also comes in a full package of styles and humors. While the existences of many gruesome vulgarities and bloody scenes, there are considered mild for this action flick. The point comes in quite handy as the movie is allowed to expand on its own while there are plenty pathway to allow infliction of stylish to occur. Be it for the cheesy dialogues, intriguing yet fashionable actions, and consistent jokes or simply by the thrills and adrenaline, Inglorious Basterds is well-written to reflect a different world of our own.

However, there is an issue and problems regarding its plot despite been well written. Foremost, you may need to be extra vigilante and highly alert to follow the movie. Secondly, you might concern for the excessive usage of non-English language throughout the movie. There is also a possible complaint about its lengthy running time, while some may question its thick-hard-to-understand-plots. To watch Inglourious Basterds, may I recommend you to have a little background regarding Nazi, or simply by staying pretty much focus when watching it. It needs a high level of concentration and if you are able to follow the story through, you will enjoy it to the fullness.

With Brad Pitt been the real basterds that chop Nazis into their scalp, his performance is highly praised, especially with his rodeo-riding attitudes that make his character memorable. Equally stunning, Christoph Waltz who play Colonel Hans Landa. There is a reason why he was awarded with The Best Actor in Cannes for nothing. Waltz's performances are sarcastically made but still charming.

The cinematographic works are excellent, portraying the perfect setting for the European World War 2 era. Inglourious Basterds is a bold and audacious war flick, but may have difficulty in making the audience to engage purely to the movie. Otherwise, this is a genius construction of subject matter into making it a purely satisfying film feature. This killing spree has never been hell of a good one!!

SIR MICHAEL CAINE TALKS ABOUT INCEPTION

Comments

Michael Caine is up soon with a British thriller Harry Brown soon, but before that EO has a piece of interview with the veteran himself and the story is none other than the on-going secret sci-fi film by Christopher Nolan - Inception.

The report has that the set of Inception has now moved to Los Angeles for more shooting. This will be Sir Michael Caine's fourth collaboration with Christopher Nolan; following his role in Batman Begins, The Prestige and The Dark Knight.

According to Caine, "I play a professor who's teaching a guy science. It's Leonardo diCaprio. He's going off to do a science project and he speaks to me before he goes."

He also did mentioned about diCaprio himself, while praising with warm words for his co-star's performance. "Leo is great. I've had a day with him [in London], he's wonderful."

When asked about the plot, Caine quickly said, "They wouldn't let me read the script. I only got my page. They're all very secretive!"

So up till now, I am still clueless to think of what Inception is all really about besides the tag line "within the architecture of the mind". You can watch the official teaser trailer here which I have featured since August.

The team of Inception comprises of actor talents such as Sir Michael Caine, Leonardo DiCaprio, Cillian Murphy, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Tom Berenger, Ken Watanabe and Tom Hardy.

VON DONNERSMARCK JOINS THE TOURIST

Comments

It was been heavily reported on the troubles Spyglass Entertainment had with shooting will commence soon. The Tourist is the movie I'm talking about. If you missed it, go here to read back.

The days for anticipation for The Tourist seems waning following Tom Cruise departure from the movie. Cruise was the original star signed for it but passed out in favour of James Mangold's Knight And Day. Sam Worthington (whom we have see him in Terminator Salvation and upcoming Avatar) has now signed to replace Cruise.

Now, Variety reported that they may have already have a director to attach with - German director Florian Henckel Von Donnersmarck, who had a Oscar-winning breakout with his 2006's first film The Lives Of Others.

Although he has not yet signed on the matter, it is possible that in few days or so, his name will be appeared as a confirmation. Variety is reporting that he has become Jolie’s number one choice for the director’s chair on the film, following several meetings with top-level contenders.

MORE SCREENTIME FOR BRUCE IN SPIDER-MAN 4

Comments

If the title above true, means that we may see Bruce Campbell yet again insulting Peter Parker? According to the interview on MTV, Sam Raimi has somehow confirm that his longtime cohort Bruce Campbell's claims that he will have a bigger role than previously in Spider-Man 4.

In case you don't know Bruce Campbell and how significant he was on each and every Spider-Man movies, just imagine at how Stan Lee (the Marvel master) get to appear briefly in each and every of them as well.

To refresh your memory and knowledges, you may have seen Bruce Campbell as:
  • Spider-Man: the wrestling promoter who insults Peter Parker during his attempt to win cash from an underground wrestling tournament.
  • Spider-Man 2: the theatre usher who insults Peter Parker outside the theatre after he was late for a stage play by Mary Jane Watson.
  • Spider-Man 3: the "rench" waiter who insults Peter Parker at the French restaurant which supposedly he and MJ would have dinner together.

If you now remembered good. But if you don't, no worry. Just guess how big Campbell's role and insults on Spider-Man 4 which will be due out in May 2011.

SELENA GOMEZ VENTURE OUT DEJA VU IN HER

Comments

So you may have heard about 2001's Mel Gibson starrer What Women Want, in which he played a guy who could hear what the opposite sex were thinking. Now, introducing the reverse version - a girl who can hear what the opposite sex are thinking.

EmpireOnline reported that New Line Cinemas have attached Emily Meyer and Amy Adelson of Step Up 3D to write for a teen-romantic-comedy called What Boys Want. Does that sounds anyway familiar?

Starring Disney's Princess buddy Selena Gomez, it seems that the version will be exactly as that. Although we are not sure practically what is it yet, it could be a sequel, a reboot or a spin-off of Gibson's attempt to win Helen Hunt's heart.

Is this show Hollywood has no other idea to tackle on till they have to take one old story from the recycle bin and changed or reversed its gender play?

SCOTT DERRICKSON GOING BACK SUPERNATURAL

Comments

Supernatural theme is getting back those attention again. Recently, the maestro of film-maker, Mr Clint Eastwood aka Dirty Harry himself will be trying his hand out on tackling supernatural theme. Also, Sam Raimi is preparing for a supernatural film based on yeti.

Now it is Scott Derrickson's attempt to venture back into the supernatural theme. Most recently seen in his partnership with Keanu Reeves in much subpar The Day The Earth Stood Still, Derrickson is set to direct a supernatural suspense thriller, The Living, according sources from Variety and EO.

The plot is unknown but it is understood that he will be teaming up with his writing partner on The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Paul Harris Boardman. The Living will be produced by Lakeshore, which also has films like Emily Rose and Underworld on them.

While the development is still pretty much in an early phase, we knew by now that Derrickson is associated with Ghosthouse Pictures' The Substitute, John Milton's Paradise Lost and Dan Simmon's Hyperion. What a busy man!!

MOVIE REVIEW: THE HURT LOCKER

Comments
ENGLISH - (N/A) - N/A - War/Action/Drama
Distributor: Summit Entertainment
Running Time: 131 minutes
Director: Kathryn Bigelow
Producers: Tony Mark (Executive); Nicolas Chartier, Kathryn Bigelow, Mark Boal, Greg Shapiro, Donnall McCusker
Writer: Mark Boal
Starring: Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty
Plot: The story was written by Mark Boal, a freelance writer who was embedded with a bomb squad. It stars Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, and Brian Geraghty as members of a U.S. Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit in Iraq and follows their tour together as they contend with defusing bombs, the threat of insurgency, and the tension that develops between them.

THE VERDICT

Green Tea Bern Says:

When you watch about a movie that revolves around the war in Iraq, there is a sterotyping-theory to assess the movie as a propaganda. Fortunately, The Hurt Locker behaves in a more realistic approach, by giving audience a rare chance to experience the war chaostic and havoc in recent times. It generally works!!

The Hurt Locker plots about the three-men team of US Army Explosive Ordance Disposal (EOD) unit, responsible for defusing bombs in the street of Iraq. Sergeant First Class William James (Jeremy Renner) becomes the Bravo Company leader, replacing Staff sergeant Thompson who killed by a remote-detonated EOD. On their first mission, James insistence on approaching a suspected bomb without sending a bomb disposal robot making the team to consider him reckless. Here comes the personal conflicts among them and the story leads to an emotional pace after that.

The plot is based on Mark Boal's account of real event when he was a freelance journalist who was embedded with an american bomb squad in Iraq. His personal account turned into a major film and unsurprisingly, an excellent translation I deduct. In simpler words, The Hurt Locker is a great film and has its abnormal intensity that raves up the realism and sarcasticism at the same point.

The whole episodes of bomb difusing missions are greatly emphasized for the reality behind them. The intensity is remained high throughout the film, giving a creeping emotion and slowly-built suspense at the same time. The Hurt Locker gives the audience a very deep action-styles while maintaining the goal for deriving the clear facts about what, where, how and why.

Cast-wise, I think the lead actor, Jeremy Renner who play William James as cool but very solid. It is not his dialogues that played it all out, but it works through his ability to grasp a perfect visualization of intensity as a US Army in Iraq. We all know soldiers are very stressful job and he translated it well. Anthony Mackie as Sergeant JT Sanborn is equally stunning, providing the serious note on the movie. Brian Geraghty who played Specialist Owen Eldrige is good too, performing as a rookie well.

The cinematographic is breathtaking, stunning and exhirilating. The blood, sweat and explosion are visualize well; while the effects portrays more realism into picture. In short, The Hurt Locker is simply amazing, a great film, well-acted and supremely intense. Perhaps, a contender for best movie of the year?

SHYAMALAN'S DEVIL IN THE MAKING

M. Night Shyamalan is turning his own penning stories into a franchise. That will be an official one, said Variety and EO. The first of his Night Chronicles franchise will be Devil.

Night Chronicles contains three films to be released over three years and will all be based on Shyamalan's story but will be directed by other directors. Devil will be directed by Drew and John Erick Dowdle, the duo who also directed Green Tea Movie's last year best horror film, Quarantine; while the screenplay is been written by Brian Nelson (30 Days of Night).

Chris Messina (Vicky Christina Barcelona) will be starring in it. Can we say an attempt by Shyamalan to establish himself as an Alfred Hitchcock follow up?

RYAN REYNOLDS IS A WOMAN?

Comments

Ryan Reynolds
will be taking his career into alignment of Robin William when it was reported that he will be set to cross-dress in his next untitled comedy, according to Variety and EO. This will be his break from his usual-trend-nowadays as an action star. We knew Ryan Reynold will be busy in several film - Green Lantern, possible Deadpool and Motorcade (replacing Tom Cruise).

The yet untitled comedy will apparently require Mr Reynolds to dress in a gown to befriend and to win his ex back, in one oft he weirdest dating strategies ever. It sounds pretty much like Mrs Doubtfire, the one where Robin William cross-dress as a nanny to win his wife and children back.

The comedy will be written by Allan Loeb (21, Wall Street 2) and produced by Working Title. No other details been attached yet.

THE CONSPIRATOR GROWS...

Comments

Now even a week after Green Tea Movie reported that Justin Long has joined the cast of Robert Redford's currently on-production biopic about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln - The Conspirator. Words from EO and Variety has confirmed the appearance of new casts.

It is now been revealed that Evan Rachel Wood, Tom Wilkinson, Kevin Kline and Alexis Bledel will join the casts.

Now, the casts will look like this:
  • James McAvoy will play Frederick Aiken, a lawyer assigned to defend Mary Surratt
  • Robin Wright Penn will play Mary Surratt, a prime suspect undergone trial for conspirating the assassination of abraham Lincoln
  • Justin Long will play McAvoy's best friend
  • Evan Rachel Wood will play Surratt's daughter Anna
  • Tom Wilkinson will play Aiken's mentor, Senator Reverdy Johnson who sympathises with Surratt
  • Kevin Kline will play Edwin Stanton, Lincoln's war secretary
  • Alexis Bledel will play Aiken's wife

So, based on the real event regarding the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln's assassination, this may be one to be watched out. Perhaps, let's learn some American History shall we?

JON FAVREAU TALKS ON AVENGERS

Comments

With Iron Man 2 pretty much ont he move now and awaiting for next Summer's opening roll-out, director Jon Favreau has confirmed his involvement in 2012 Marvel's team up The Avengers. For the film, Favreau will serve as an executive producer but had roll-out the possibility that he will not directing it.

"You need somebody who has the perspective of all the different franchises to bring them together," he told MTV. "I have the myopic vision of just knowing and loving Iron Man."

"I'll definitely have input and a say," he says, "but they'll have to find a different director because I'm not going to be available."

He is not going to be available means his plan after Iron Man 2, Cowboys vs Aliens and Sony's animation Neanderthals is been filled up with other schedules on his diary? He is definitely directing Cowboys vs Aliens, as indicated by the writing duo of Orci and Kurtzman on my blog post few days ago. On the mean time, Sony has attached him to write and produce the animation.

DAVID SCHWIMMER GOES DARKER AND DISTURBING

Comments

Last year, did you watched the so-called inspiring yet mildly entertaining Run Fat Boy Run? No. It's okay because the director will be developing a new movie now but I have to warn you that it is no longer a fun movie, but rather a dark drama.

Trust, based on David Schwimmer's story and script by Andy Bellin will tells about the family's attempts to deal with the trauma experienced by their 14 year-old daughter who has been abused by someone who gained trust in an internet chat room.

The story is basically straying away from David Schwimmer's past in popular TV sitcom Friends: hilarious and all-around nice guy. Now no more? It is not the first time any of those stars turn much into a seriouis note on the latter part of their career.

Clive Owen and Catherine Keener will play the parents and Liana Liberato as the traumatized daughter. Shooting begin in Michigan in November.

NEW NAME FOR WICHITA

Comments

Next July The Fourth, prepare yourself for an action-spy-comedy-thriller that will feature
Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. The Fox production could be the first major role for Mr Cruise in few years and I hope the premise will bring in much hypes as I hope for. Oh wait, I forgot about Valkyrie, but it was filmed three years ago!!

Despite the movie title became instable following Fox decision to change the name for few times now. First, it was called
Trouble Man, then Wichita, then Untitled Wichita Project. Now it seems like Fox have finally found a suitable name for it - Knight and Day. (Source: EO)

Paul Dano, Peter Sarsgaard, Viola Davis, Olivier Martinez, Maggie Grace and Mark Blucas are the co-stars, and the director is James Mangold (3:10 To Yuma, Walk the Line). The release is pencilled in for next July, by which time the title may well have changed half a dozen more times.

EDGE OF DARKNESS TRAILER ONLINE

Comments
It's been a long time since we last saw Mel Gibson. The last time I checked on the database, he had a record of jail time for his infamous DUI. Now he is back, with a bigger pain inflicting thriller.

Edge of Darkness is a film adaptation based on the UK TV series of the same name. Also starring; Ray Winstone, Danny Huston and Bojana Novakovic. The film is directed by Martin Campbell and based on screenplay by William Monahan and Andrew Bovell.

As the plot goes, Edge of Darkness tells about "As homicide detective Thomas Craven (Mel Gibson) investigates the death of his activist daughter (Bojana Novakovic), he uncovers not only her secret life, but a corporate cover-up and government collusion that attracts an agent tasked with cleaning up the evidence."

The movie will be released in US for January 29, 2010.

JACK RYAN REBOOT/SEQUEL/RE-IMAGINING MATERIALIZE

Comments

Variety and EO reported that the long gestation of Tom Clancy/Jack Ryan film is coming near to materialize soon. That's if Chris Pine accept the offer to play the lead of the famous thriller figure.

Paramount Pictures has gave a greenlight for things to fold in, aiming to take the series to feature a young blood on the franchise. Whether this upcoming film a reboot, sequel or simply re-imagining will not matter much, as a lot will be eager to see Chris Pine, fresh from his performance as Captain James T Kirk in rebooted-Star Trek.

No official title for the planned movie been released yet but with Jack Ryan's world counting with only eight more unfilmed materials left following the silver screen adaptation of The Sum of All Fears and Clear and Present Danger, we can only play the guessing game. But there are two titles left in which sets prior to Ryan holding any sort of ranks which may suits Pine the most.

Those two possible stories could be Red Rabbit (regarding on the plot to assasinate the Pope) and The Cardinal of the Kremlin (when Ryan is stilla CIA analyst).

As I said earlier, it does not matter which part it is going to be, but I am sure that the business is getting seriously heated up now.

REDFORD'S THE CONSPIRATOR WILL START SHOOTING SOON

Comments

With such announcement on EO and The Hollywood Reporter, I am here to tell you that the Redford's version of Abraham Lincoln's biopic, The Conspirator will start production soon. I mentioned a few weeks ago that Steven Spielberg has his own version of the Lincoln biopic as well and it will be interesting to see how this turn version would turn up to be.

The shooting will start in Georgia this month, a follow-up to his mediocre first directing of 2007's Lions For Lamb.

The movie stars Robin Wright Penn as Mary Surratt, a Confederate accused of involvement in the conspiracy to assassinate Abraham Lincoln, and James McAvoy as the army colonel who agrees, reluctantly, to defend her. Justin Long will play McAvoy's best friend, a war veteran who lost a limb during the conflict.

ANGELINA JOLIE JOINS THE TOURIST?

Comments

The Tourist, a Hitchcockian style thriller movie is undergoing tremendous changes despite the shooting date is drawing near. First, came the news of departure of Tom Cruise (the same case where he leaves Motorcade) which now has Sam Worthington filling the shoe.

Then director Bharat Nalluri has left as well, without any replacement. And now, thanks to The Hollywood Reporter via this site, Charlize Theron has also departed and talks have been on-going between studio and Angelina Jolie. Is the rumours that Angelina Jolie may set her foot on the movie now?

The film has now been boasted by five different writers and is a remake of the French Anthony Zimmer from 2005. Plot-wise, The Tourist features a classic innocent-caught-up-in-nefarious-shenanigans story about a tourist persuaded by Interpol to go undercover and trap a former lover who's now suspected of being an international criminal. Worthington is the unwary traveller, and Jolie, the shoe fitting perfectly we feel, would be the femme fatal, according to EO.

Gary Barber, Roger Birnbaum and Jonathan Glickman will produce for Spyglass Entertainment.
