THE VERDICT

Paranormal Activity received a rave attention and critics after its inaugural debut back in 2008. The movie however only arrived to conventional theater a year later while employing an unusual marketing strategy that has made the film one of the most successful movie that has an impressive box office receipt. $11k budget but a return of more than $107 million, Paranormal activity is deemed as the movie of the year.

Writer-director Oren Peli created the movie based on his own worst fear against the ghostly film, with ability to turn the fear into something marketable. The story line revolves around a couple in suburban of San Diego, Micah and Katie. Katie claimed that she has been followed by unusual entity since she was young. Following a consultation with a psychic, the audience was informed that the entity is demonic in nature. Micah's enthusiasm to dismiss the natural order and take matters into his own hand. Armed with a video camera, the whole chain of unusual and frightening activities were all recorded.

The plot, although is based on simple account of the paranormal activity that you can read from other source has been used well by Oren Peli. Peli created a highly entertaining and grossly thrill factor that gives something mysterious and creepy for the audience. The highlight of the movie is definitely the chain of the paranormal activities that occurred and captured every night. Throwing in some little magical tricks, Peli managed to convince the audience with the realistic experience of seeing how the couple was completely terrified.

The movie is a definite type that really gets you to the edge of the seat. Every night, thw audience are served with various type of activities and it all make the audience to wonder what's next. The audience need to really watch out for little piece of signs here and there to realize that the activity is not merely just an attempt for provocation, but also a sign to create a bumpy yet eerie experience. Watch out for sounds, shadows and disambiguation that may appeared and well to add in the horror.

The movie is however built on a slow pace step-by-step and technique where the audience will only be served with important points but over a longer span of time. The first one-third of the movie provide little excitement. Nevertheless, the plot built up over time and eventually turned into something monstrous especially the final three nights.

The casts of Micah Sloat and Katie Featherston interacts well in the whole movie. Conflicts arise where the tense to get rid the demonic entity was manifested well by the character's emotions. Spontaneous, sarcastic and sneaky - both character has a different polarity with Micah been skeptical and sarcastic while Katie been the opposite make the characters suitable for such horror display.

Perhaps, the movie is great to be watched from the cinema. Try to avoid the home experience because it will gives you a different setting and environment. The best part of all was the last scene, and it will really made your heart jumps out of the cavity. Perhaps, try to look for the different version of endings. My simple final words - Do Enjoy!
