BILL CONDON TO DIRECT BREAKING DAWN

Summit Entertainment suddenly has the eager to look for some Academy Award winner director to make their last installment of the Twilight Saga. Yes, news has pouring in and Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) will in fact direct the final chapter; Breaking Dawn.

“I'm very excited to get the chance to bring the climax of this saga to life on-screen. As fans of the series know, this is a one-of-a-kind book - and we're hoping to create an equally unique cinematic experience.
Bill Condon

We shall be able to watch the glimpses of Eclipse when it arrives at the theaters this summer before the two-parts finale (just like how Warner did with the last part of the Harry Potter series) of Breaking Dawn follow up with tentative release dates of Summer/Winter 2011. Apparently, Bill Condon will do the double duty as Summit finally confirms that the movie will split into two-parts! So virtually no surprise there though!

The movie will have its script written by Melissa Rosenberg from Stephenie Meyer's bestselling novel. All the casts (you know who are them right?) will be returning!

NEW RELEASE DATES AND CHANGES FOR WARNER AND UNIVERSAL

The news arrived yesterday but after some confusion, I decided this is the best time to put the finalized one into place. The confusion was due to the mistake regarding the release date of The Hobbit. (Yes, The Hobbit!) Initially it was slated for December 2013 for the first film but now it get sooner than anyone would thought. According to the new time-table, the first of The Hobbit will probably see its date set for 2012. The releasing date announced by Warner Bros was in-line with their mutual agreement with IMAX to showcase 20 films over the span of 3 years. Meanwhile, there are some bumps in and out on the schedule for Universal Pictures' side. You can view the new and updated releasing dates from both studio below:

NEW POSTER OF INCEPTION AND IT'S GETTING MORE EXCITING

The Green Tea Movie has been following every piece of details about the upcoming sci-fi heist thriller Inception. Due to cinema this July, with the man behind all of these creative stalks - I'm refering to the none other than Christopher Nolan.

The latest poster reveals more about the story plot. The group of heist-espionage team headed by Leo, with city behind them folding over - an ambiguous reference for the phrase "architecture of mind revolution" that was kept on mention for so long. Interesting! View it below nevertheless:

Set and mark your calender on July 16 please!

THE SECRET ENDING OF IRON MAN 2? [UPDATED]

It will be interesting because I will be watching Iron Man 2 tomorrow (today; the post was written at 11.47PM). Well as the matter of fact, I stumbled into these articles in Slash Film and Latino Review – and this is not the kind of ending spoiler I expected to hear. I mean is not that it is not awesome; it’s just that sometimes things should have been kept for awhile.

Remember the day I was watching Iron Man back in 2008, this is how the ending after the credits looked like:

But details about the end of credit spoiler for (yeah, I’m going to watch it tomorrow though) Iron Man 2 has already been exposed. Oh, this is no longer a secret. Warning, skip the paragraph of quote below if you want to keep it “SECRET – WARNING ALERT!)

SPOILER ALERT: We see a black car drive through the desert of New Mexico. They make sure to tell us it's New Mexico by showing a closeup of the license plate which reads 8RE 2Z1 New Mexico. The car door opens and Agent Coulson walks up to a giant crater. There are trucks driving around a big hole in the crater. Agent Coulson turns around, gets on the phone and says, "Thor. We've found him." (He could also be saying, "Sir, we've found it." I couldn't exactly tell, the audio wasn't that great). The camera then cuts to a shot of Thor's hammer stuck in the ground in the middle of the crater.
Latino Review

Oh else, if you can’t picture that in your head – go to this link and see the video by yourself. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

[UPDATE] Another round of check at the WorstPreview(dot)com, apparently the video has been removed at the request of Marvel. So, this shows that what I have seen earlier is REAL DEAL. For those who missed the video, I am sorry but looks like I have to keep searching for one too!!

[UPDATE 2] Apparently I have found one site with the video still up in the sky. Head over to http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=17572 OK!!

NEW CHARACTER POSTERS FOR THE A-TEAM

This scoop is taken from Empire Online. They have featured several character posters for the Joe Carnahan’s upcoming The A-Team. They look interestingly fun, comical and more up-close and personal. View the four character poster yourself. Don’t worry, you are not in Mars – these posters are available in Korean language but basically it tells you the same thing – A-Team and character names.

The A-Team follows a rogue team of Iraqi War veteran who are on the run for the crimes they never commited and on the way to clear their names. It stars Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Sharlto Copley, Quinton Jackson, Jessica Biel and Patrick Wilson.

CLASH OF THE TITANS 2 AND THE JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH 2?

Forget about how murky the 3D effect was in the disappointing Clash Of The Titans. Perhaps, this is the reason why Hollywood should not make any 3D-conversion when your movie is already fun enough to watch. But, that murky film grossed more than $400 million worldwide and Warner Bros is pushing for the next adventure for Perseus and the gangs (who are still alive of course).

Yes, you heard it right. The sequel for Clash Of The Titans is on the making. Deadline reports that Sam Worthington and the rest (again, who are still alive) may be reprising their roles too. But the set-back is that director Louis Leterrier will not involved, rather step aside to serve as executive producer. Greg Berlanti will write the story and the studio is hoping that the production will start as soon as possible, anticipating the fact that Sam Worthington may not be available if Avatar 2 does kicking. (We are still in grey over when Avatar 2 will start working) So expect another round of Perseus’ adventure soon and I expect this time he will get his love/wife Io in too.

In the mean time, New Line Cinemas and Walden Media will put together a sequel to Journey To The Center Of The Earth. Sources have that Brendan Fraser will likely not to return – because he will only work with director Eric Brevig (currently doing Yogi Bear 3D). The fact that Brevig is not returning will now requires the studio to look for the new crops.

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 IN 2013

Ideally, it should be make into a franchise. The one that we saw last month was merely a stinct based on the books written by British author Cressida Cowell. Oh boy, how much we love it! Despite the low opening weekend for How To Train Your Dragon in Stateside, the general good word-of-mouth has generated more incomes and it surged back to the top position again this weekend. So, what’s next for DreamWorks if it is not about the potential sequel?

Yes, the sequel to How To Train Your Dragon is on work. Studio’s boss Jeffrey Katzenberg announced, "2010 is off to a strong start, thanks in large part to the performance of How To Train Your Dragon, which – having grossed nearly $375 million to date in worldwide box office – has become DreamWorks Animation's next franchise. We plan to release the sequel theatrically in 2013."

So, three years down the road for the sequel. Could we have Dean DeBlois and Chris Saunders back on the director seat? Possible. Which direction the sequel would go to? Could the sequel talks about pirates too? (Just like Cressida Cowell’s works on the series – How to Be a Pirate!) Much to answer but we shall wait for more on this.

FOX SUED OVER THE CHIPMUNKS

The Hollywood Reporter said that the Fox will get their arse sued by someone who wants to get the name credited for writing Alvin And The Chipmunk: The Squeakquel. Bagdasarian Prods which run by the family of the Chipmunks’ creator, Ross Bagdasarian is suing 20th Century Fox over multiple conflicts.

First, the family’s lawsuit claims that Janice Karman (married to Ross Bagdasarian Jr) wrote the sript for the movie, which was re-written and Fox brought her in to polish the finalized version. Thus, she pointed out that several scenes that proved she’s co-owner of the finalized script and thus entitled for half of all the profits. Then, the rest are concerning the merchandising and the failure of the studio to take advantage of the huge tie-in possibilities for the film.

In response, the Fox legal team put out this statement, “The Bagdasarians' claims are completely without merit. We look forward to resolving our differences and, in the meantime, we are continuing to move forward with this franchise.”

Ah, it hurts when lawsuits go around a potential film, but this franchise is been a half-junk. So it’s a great opportunity for a publicity stunt before the third (which previously I have no doubt at all will be coming) film goes in production. For those who anticipated the chipmunks, yes, the third one will be out in 2011 in third dimension.

MARC GUGGENHEIM TO TACKLE TWO BIG FILMS

If you do not know who the hell is he, then let’s assure he is a kick-ass writer for shows like Eli Stone and Flash Forward. Words have that Marc Guggenheim's biggest project task up to date is to transform two big stories into silver screen.

The first of all; The Da Vinci project which has been getting some brushed over few weeks ago will set to rediscover the gifted inventor some action/adventure/thriller/history sort of story. Leonardo Da Vinci and the Soldier of Forever is currently the production title will anticipate the world famous inventor that goes into the world of secret organization and the fight against supernatural spirits.

Meanwhile; he is also responsible to transform the story revolving Sinbad, Ali Baba and any figure from the Arabian folklore to pull of a team of heist-adventure storyline. Thieves of Baghdad will see the team that sets in the Arabian medieval time with some elements of Italian Job or Ocean’s Eleven.

Well, we shall hear more from him right? But right now, everything is still in its earliest days and many more cool art concepts will be fused in over times. Now we need some badass director to steer things!!

NO, OUIJA BOARD-GAME FILM IS NOT A HORROR FILM

Producer Brad Fuller spoke with Bloody Disgusting about the Platinum Dunes’ planned adaptation film about the Ouija board. He hinted this during the interview which by part could means this unusual creepy board will go more towards the family-friendly angle like Zathura or Jumanji.

Ouija isn’t really a horror movie per se, it’s definitely more of a big action-adventure movie along the lines of…I gotta be careful what I compare it to. But you know, it’s like a big action-adventure movie. And that script…I’ve read a couple pages of it, it seems good. I think we’re getting the full script in the next month. And that’s a very exciting project for it, cause it’s a much bigger movie, and it gives us an opportunity to try something we haven’t done before…There are definitely horror elements, because it’s about Ouija and what happens from an Ouija board, but it’s a much bigger film. I would call it an action-adventure with horror elements.
Brad Fuller, producer

That’s weird but I have to give him some credit. It is a bold move and definitely something less frightening would have given it right angulations for the type of audience it’s looking for. It seems to be a new trend in Hollywood as well – board games in 3D! You may have well aware that toys like Monopoly, Stretch Armstrong, Battleship are all in the process of becoming a movie! Good luck, Hollywood!

THE RING 3D FOR PARAMOUNT

The Ring and The Ring 2 are moderately accepted. It has been 5 years since the second one with Hideo Nakata-directed and Naomi Watts as Rachel on the main lead but there has been scarcely news about any possibility for a sequel. The next thing since then is a bit surprising. Here comes the next installment by the way as Paramount Pictures prepares to spook you in 3D.

It looks like the world can’t live without 3D. Heat Vision Blog (THR) and Slash Film reported that David Loucka has been hired to write with Walter Parkers and Laurie MacDonald will produce. No director has been attached yet but we do know that the project is now called The Ring 3D. The Ring is one of those legacy left by DreamWorks after their split although in some area or films they are still cooperating.

Reports also indicate that the new film will be more teen-centric, a new invention to the franchise. Looks like sequel and 3D rules in Hollywood yet again!!

RUMOUR HAS DISTRICT 9 SEQUEL IS COMING SOON?

Treat this as a rumour still, reasons will be explained later. Last year, one of the best reviewed, critically acclaimed and financially success movie that really blew my mind – District 9 had done so much impact around. Multiple Oscar nods (although I am unsatisfy over their zero win), eventually a cult classic in few decades time, and a launching pad for both Neil Blomkamp and Sharlto Copley’s career. This year (now), there are many talks around the possibility for a sequel.

Folks at Screen Rant and MarketSaw said that the sequel could go into production as early as this autumn. No matter what the title may sounds – District 10 or District 9 2, reports continue to enlist that Neil Blomkamp and Peter Jackson will be back to direct and produce respectively.

But here is a catch – on why is should still be treated as a rumour. Number one; we used to hear that Blomkamp has acquired funding and creative freedom for his next untitled sci-fi project last year and he also said that it has nothing to do with the world of District 9. Number two; the studio TriStar and Sony Pictures have denying this reports!

Well, so far it is still a rumour after all. But, the bets are high for many are wondering what the fate of Wikus van der Merwe is? Will Christopher Johnson comes back to forge a war on Earth? I do hope Neil Blomkamp answers this quickly because I am excited for a sequel after all.

CAREY MULLIGAN IS THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO?

It looks like British sweetheart Carey Mulligan is set to play the lead role in the Hollywood-remake of the Swedish hit thriller The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Mulligan has been gaining a lot of limelight these days – thanks to her performance in An Education that landed her an Oscar nomination. Now the 24-year-old will set (almost casted) for the David Fincher’s adaptation.

Fincher will be considering her for the lead role of Lisbeth Salander after an audition that really impressed the director. Apparently, the family of the late Stieg Larsson (author of the Millennium Trilogy) has endorsed Mulligan too. It was reported too that should Mulligan chosen, she would have about $6 million per movie paycheck for her role on adaptation of the three novels (That’s $18 million for the trilogy!)

The Swedish version has been making great impact in turns of critical acclaim and book sales. It looks like inevitable that the Hollywood will not try to remake it into a simpler language to follow. Otherwise, the David Fincher’s version will be based off the original novel rather than closely lenient to the Swedish film. What ever it is, we hope for an official announcement soon as well as the production to start, considering Fincher is still working on the current project he has, The Social Network.

MAXIMUM RIDE LEAVES SONY

The planned project adaptation from James Patterson’s novel series Maximum Ride has left Sony Pictures. But Universal Pictures is now seeking to fish in the rights instead, with director Catherine Hardwicke will be still attached to direct.

The James Patterson’s young adult fiction has been having trouble to kick start the production at Sony and was ditched as it impinged on their plans to reboot Spider-Man franchise. I am not familiar with this novel work by Patterson but it follows six teens known as the Flock (mixture of bird and human) that after their successful in learning how to fly, they escape the laboratory where they have been kept. After living in exile, they have been pursuit by a pack of human/wolf crossbreds called the Erasers too on the process.

Sounds sci-fi though! Universal has hired Iron Man co-writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Otsby to adapt the novel. Sounds like Universal are very serious about this bunch of Flocks.

GHOST RIDER 2 TO GO ON EVEN WITHOUT CAGE?

Nobody likes the first Ghost Rider but while it had made $270 million worldwide, that number was good enough for another sequel. It was reported that Sony Pictures (Columbia) is trying to push in for a sequel, Ghost Rider 2 – considering that if they don’t start making things, the rights would revert back to Marvel Studio and Disney. They are also try to push forward even Nicolas Cage is not available at the moment to reprise his role as the soul reaper of lies.

Nicolas Cage is not going to be free after all. With all his sudden spike on his career, we will about to see him in this summer’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and was reportedly may begin the production of the third National Treasure under the Disney banner as early as this autumn.

Flash Forward series writers Scott Gimple and Seth Hoffman have already turned in a draft of a GR2 script under the supervision of David S Goyer to the studio. Now what the studio need is a director but the studio has insisted that the original director Mark Steven Johnson will not handle the sequel. A race against time fellow Sony!!

RIDLEY SCOTT REVEALS DETAILS ON ALIEN PREQUEL

An interview with MTV when promoting his upcoming Robin Hood, Ridley Scott talks about the prequel of Alien. You can read the full interview at MTV link here. It looks like Scott's next project is heading towards the gore extra-terrestrial pic.

According to Scott, they are still working on things and the current status on the script is that it is on its fourth draft. Scott assured that the fourth draft will contains the basic idea about the story and making the characters around much better.

When talking about the setting of the prequel, here is what Ridley Scott have to say:

It's set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney [Weaver's character Ellen Ripley]. It's fundamentally about going out to find out 'Who the hell was that Space Jockey?' The guy who was sitting in the chair in the alien vehicle — there was a giant fellow sitting in a seat on what looked to be either a piece of technology or an astronomer's chair.

It looks like the prequel will focus on the chest-burst "Space-Jokey" found on the first Alien movie.

Weyland hasn't joined Yutani yet, so they go and see Weyland. [The film] is about the discussion of terraforming — taking planets and planetoids and balls of earth and trying to terraform, seed them with the possibilities of future life.

As I said earlier, cross over to MTV to reas the full interview. So when is the release date if things go according to plan? Scott answered,
"We're hoping to have it in theaters in late 2011, or maybe the best date in 2012."

[UPDATE]: Ridley then also added in that there will not only one, but two prequels before Alien 1. (Source from The Collider)

FINAL DESTINATION 5 WILL MOVE ON

Remember when we thought last year's Final Destination 4 will be our last trip to see a group of people die in one particular order after escaping one freak accident. No, apparently not yet. New Line Cinema insists that the fifth installment is still ticking. Now they have hired writer Eric Heisserer (A Nightmare on Elm Street) to create the script.

Heat Vision Blog reported that he was nabbed in following his success on making the treatment for the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street and the on-production prequel to The Thing. Even if they hired Heisserer for this so-called the Final Destination 5 or "next to the final film", what kind of differences in terms of the story can it be? The series is always concentrated on the similar wheel of fate so I don't think the story for the fifth one will be any of such differences than the previous fours. No director has been attached yet and according to New Line, production will start next year for again in 3D shots.

Previously for the fourth installment, the company thought that it would be the last one due to its process of tough production and several re-shoots. Not to mention that when it grossed $66 million domestically and $181 million worldwide, it deemed reasonable for another one. But seriously, don't you get kind of sick now? I mean like the fifth time and it will always be the same? *sigh*

TRAILER FOR TWILIGHT ECLIPSE AND THE LAST AIRBENDER ONLINE

The last thing I want to say about the latest trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is that it is awesome. Indeed, the apparently last trailer before we hitting for the late June release looks amazingly cool. Forget about two pale-looking peoples kissing each other while the other one is been in full force jealous. Forget about also the fact that there is not even a breathtaking action sequence in the past two. This one will change. Already been hailed as the best Twilight movie in its series, Eclipse will arrive very soon on our local cinemas!

Catch the last trailer of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse below:

The next trailer is the M Night Shyamalan's upcoming cartoon-adapted live action flick, The last Airbender. Recently, the flick has been upgraded into a 3D version but I don't expect the result to be as bad as The Clash Of The Titans. The reason is simple - most scenes have already been made with 3D is possible in mind. Thus, I won't see why this 3D-production will be flawed at all. However, I have to say I am not sure how well this movie will go. One thing for sure, the weekend of Fourth of July will be its releasing weekend.

Catch the trailer of The Last Airbender below:

KRISTEN STEWART CONSIDERED FOR WANTED 2?

Studio can be very pushy at times and what follows after the departure of Angelina Jolie from the Wanted 2 project. It seems like Jolie has large influence over the project; whether it's alive or dead. At once it seems that the sequel project is dead after Jolie had dropped Wanted 2 last February, but Universal may have already had someone to replace in mind.

Guess who is that? Yes, it is Twilight star
Kristen Stewart. According to E! Online, Timur Bekmambetov and Universal Pictures are keen to sign the star for the leading role in Wanted 2. Ouch! I know you never have see that coming but the fact is, Stewart is not so free on her schedules too, considering the two-part Twilight finale, Breaking Dawn may start anytime soon.

Well, should I buy this news?

MONSTER,INC 2 ARRIVING IN 2012

In some happier notes, Disney chairman Rich Ross announcing today in the press briefing at The Walt Disney HQ (yesterday at the time of writing) that a release date of 16 November 2012 is set for the sequel of 2001's Monster Inc. It has been a decade since we have some great time with Mike, Sulley and Boo. Frantically over the years there have been numerous rumours for a possible sequel will be on work and we have one announced now!

Unfortunately, I am not sure if director
Pete Docter (Up as well) might be returning for the director seat or not in Monster Inc 2. But it is save to say that this is an animation and it is by Pixar. I can only assumed that things would run off smoothly at the hands of Pixar considering their qualities in producing fine animation each year.

On the other hand, Ross also said that the studio was about to give a greenlight for a new movie featuring the Muppets, titled
Walter. Althought it was not clear when the movie is going to be release, but James Bobin will be directing this.

CASTING NEWS FOR RED RIDING HOOD

The upcoming Catherine Hardwicke's Gothic horor fairytale The Girl With The Red Riding Hood has expanded its casting crew today. Previously, some may have already note that Amanda Seyfried will indeed playing the title role, loosely based from the popular children bedtime story.

Then,
Shiloh Fernandez has been added in to play a woodcutter with whom Red falls in love. Now, we have three additional cast on the supporting roles.

Max Irons (son of Jeremy Irons) will play the blacksmith who's due to marry Red in accordance to the familoes arrangement of marriage. Julie Christie will play Red's grandmother (probably not her's) that reminiscene the character from the original material. Gary Oldman, menawhile will play the "Witchfinder General" who must pawn the head of the wolf.

Shooting will commence in Vancouver soon for the release in 2011.

GREEN HORNET IN 3D NOW

Sony Pictures announced that the release date for Seth Rogen's The Green Hornet (originally scheduled for Christmas weekend of 2010) has been bumped backward to early next year. The studio has improvised MLK Week or January 14, 2011 as the new release date. Recently, the film has garnered some controversial remarks that the studio execs awere displeased with the outcome of the film, although that was quickly denied by them.

The latest news has that The Green Hornet will be given a 3D treatment. Although again I am very disppointed with this kind of late decision to do so, I still believe that with much longer time gap between now until their planned release date, the outcome will nevertheless still better than
Clash Of The Titans.

Good news is that according to
Empire Online, director Michel Gondry and writer Seth Rogen have yet to edit the film. This gives a much space of breathing for the post 3D conversion work to blend into the specific scenes much better.

Rogen when
speaking to HitFix also said,
Evan Goldberg, Michel Gondry and myself could not be more excited about going 3D. The truth is that this is something that we have wanted since the very first conversations we all had about the film. A lot of the visually driven sequences Michel came up were first conceived for a 3D movie. What gets me most excited is the fact that Gondry is so enthusastic about it. I think that Gondry's visuals done in 3D will give us something we've never seen before.

In response to the move by The Green Hornet, Sony Pictures also decided to bounce the upcoming vampire thriller
Priest (starring Paul Bettany) back into March.

His life is not very difficult and his personal trials not that overwhelming. However, one day he makes the simple decision to become a super hero even though he has no powers or training.

THE VERDICT

Did Kick-Ass really kick-ass in the end? This is a simple question to answer; yes indeed. Forget about how I have to go against Roger Ebert for the second time this year because it doesn't deserved the single star that he gave. I believe in superhero and I believe in a strong movie that uses different and unconventional method in it. I rather find it very charming, unique, filled with feel good sentiment about been a loser and yet very engaging. Take this as a swift-cross between Zombieland, Taratino's works and any superhero movies you have seen before.

It looks like there are another four new image stills from Inception. Last week we have 4 image stills premiered worldwide and was featured in the blog at this link. I have to say, pretty amazing for all those four previous one. Well, it looks like the Warner bros are pretty playful in terms of their marketing of this project - so does C Nolan.

Although no official plot, nor any new trailer since end of last year, the film is inflicting a lot of buzz and attention so far. Well, that is a job's done but not when you consider these new images. Click on the slide show to view. Enjoy!!

P/S: Cinematographer Wally Pfister has confirmed that Nolan and him will go all to against Batman 3 in 3D while maintaining the option that they will still go for IMAX on it.
