TRAILER: SCOTT PILGRIM'S SECOND IS NOW ONLINE

Comments

Michael Cera's late summer comic book adaptation, Scott Pilgrim vs The World has a brand new trailer - the theatrical trailer, is now online everywhere. The Edgar Wright's produced, written and directed film is based on the comic book series Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O'Malley. It tells the story of Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera), bass guitarist for the garage band Sex Bob-omb, has just met the girl of his dreams. However, he must defeat Ramona Flowers' (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) seven evil exes, who are coming to kill him.

With August 13 release date is drawing near, this trailer made its debut on the Facebook page today. The new trailer gives out more details about Scott and his gay room-mates Wallace Wells (played by Kieran Culkin). No, don't worry Scott Pilgrim is not gay - just that I can sense the perfect octagonal best buddies with Wallace, in an attempt to try to win Ramona's heart. When you are in love, things get a little crazy. What's more, action sequences with lots of comic-feel "ka-boom" cardboards around.

Enjoy the trailer while you blasts on the evil exes. Malaysians will have to wait till November 4 for this.

DEL TORO BIDS FAREWELL TO THE HOBBIT

Comments

It has been two years but no fruitful results yet! Despite Guillermo del Toro's passionates and efforts for these two years into setting up a perfect visionary on the world of JRR Tolkien's Middle Earth, it turns out that the bigger problem on the rights holder MGM is just getting very frustrating and out of hand. The Mexican director has announced his departure from helming the long awaited prequels to the Lord of the Ring.

In a joint statement with producer Peter Jackson via TheOneRing.net;

In light of ongoing delays in the setting of a start date for filming “The Hobbit”, I am faced with the hardest decision of my life. After nearly two years of living, breathing and designing a world as rich as Tolkien’s Middle Earth, I must, with great regret, take leave from helming these wonderful pictures. I remain grateful to Peter, Fran and Philippa Boyens, New Line and Warner Brothers and to all my crew in New Zealand. I’ve been privileged to work in one of the greatest countries on earth with some of the best people ever in our craft and my life will be forever changed. The blessings have been plenty, but the mounting pressures of conflicting schedules have overwhelmed the time slot originally allocated for the project. Both as a co-writer and as a director, I wish the production nothing but the very best of luck and I will be first in line to see the finished product. I remain an ally to it and its makers, present and future, and fully support a smooth transition to a new director.
Guillermo del Toro, outgoing director of The Hobbit

We feel very sad to see Guillermo leave the Hobbit, but he has kept us fully in the loop and we understand how the protracted development time on these two films, due to reasons beyond anyone’s control – has compromised his commitment to other long term projects. The bottom line is that Guillermo just didn’t feel he could commit six years to living in New Zealand, exclusively making these films, when his original commitment was for three years. Guillermo is one of the most remarkable creative spirits I’ve ever encountered and it has been a complete joy working with him. Guillermo’s strong vision is engrained into the scripts and designs of these two films, which are extremely fortunate to be blessed with his creative DNA.
Peter Jackson, producer of The Hobbit

To be frank, I know these kind of thing will eventually happen. MGM has been battling over the ownership and financial problem that has effectively caused the development of their priced jewels - Bond 23 and The Hobbit in limbo. Both are definite box office; The Lord of the Ring trilogy grossed more than USD 2.9 billion worldwide while the last Bond movie - Quantum of Solace grossed USD 580 million.

Technically, del Toro admitted that no greenlight was given yet and based on what was reported on Green Tea Movie previously, it is hard to determine if the speculated shooting date in next few months can be achieved. Meanwhile, a hunt for the new director is a must now. Although del Toro is no longer a director, he will still serves the film as co-writer with Jackson, Fran Walsh and Phillipa Boyens, while his design input will still be vital.

We wish him all the best! And screw you MGM!!! If it is so hard for you to get it done right, sell the rights, please!!

DENNIS HOPPER DIES AT 74

Comments

Dennis Lee Hooper, the legendary actor from past hits like Rebel Without A Cause and Giant (both also featuring the other legend - James Dean) as well as Easy Rider, passed away on Saturday at the age of 74. Having been long battling his worsen and terminal prostate cancer, Hopper still making films. At the time of his passing, an animation Alpha And Omega is awaiting release this fall.

With career spanning for more than 5 decades, Hopper first gained some popularity with TV series back in 1955 and two films with James Dean. In 1969, he personally directed and starred in Easy Rider, a hit he should never forgot because of its victory at the Cannes that year and subsequently nominated for Oscar's Best Original Screenplay. The road trip movie, tells the story of two bikers (played by Peter Fonda and Hopper) who travel through the American Southwest and South with the aim of achieving freedom. 40 years down the road, Easy Rider became a pop culture.

He was unable to build on his success for several years, an effect following the death of his idol - James Dean. His insolent behaviour cost him many filming opportunity but not until a featured role in Apocalypse Now (1979) brought him to the attention again. In 1986, Hooper's performance in Blue Velvet received critical appraisal while his work in Hoosiers earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination in the same year.

After those wonderful years, Hooper switched to a lower profile left. He had co-starred in Speed (1994) with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock as the main villain. 2008's Elegy was his last major film appearance, together with Ben Kingsley, Penelope Cruz and Debbie Harry.

According to Rolling Stone magazine, he was "one of Hollywood's most notorious drug addicts," for 20 years. He spent much of the 1970s and early 1980s living as "an outcast" in a small town he purchased after the success of Easy Rider. Hopper was also "notorious for his troubled relationships with women," including Michelle Phillips, who divorced him after less than two weeks of marriage. Hopper was married five times in total — he was in the process of divorcing Victoria Duffy, his wife of 14 years, at the time of his death — and is survived by four children.

It was unknown since when he was stricken with cancer but as on October 29 last year, Hopper's manager reported that Hopper has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. In January 2010, it was reported that Hopper's cancer had metastasized to his bones. Hopper was terminally ill and was unable to undergo chemotherapy to treat his prostate cancer. On May 29, he succumbed to the complications arising from his cancer, reportedly died peacefully in his Venice home surrounded by family and friends on Saturday morning.

Before his death, Hopper was honoured as the 2403rd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame along side his best pal, Jack Nicholson. RIP Dennis Hopper.

JACK THE GIANT KILLER DELAYED FILMING UNTIL 2011

Comments
It looks like Bryan Singer's next directorial project Jack The Giant Killer has been put on hold of its filming until February 2011. The guys at Screen Rant spread out the words and said that the delayed has something to concern about the visual effects. Supposedly, the shooting starts this summer but Bryan Singer opt for different approach of pre-visualizing things.

For those who are not familiar with the plot story, Jack is a normal farmer is given a chance of his lifetime to lead a dangerous expedition to the giant's kingdom after a princess is kidnapped. This brings to a threatening in between the long standing peace between men and the giants. No official casting heard from the movie either although Singer has met with Aaron Johnson and Andrew Garfield for the lead role.

Singer's next project, a producer role on X-Men: First Class begins picking up power a few hours ago when James McAvoy was rolled in as Professor X. Now, who will be Magneto? And what about Jack The Giant Killer then?

TOMMY LEE JONES JOINS CAPTAIN AMERICA

Comments

Few days ago, UGO reported a rumour that actor Tommy Lee Jones may be joining the cast of The First Avenger: Captain America for some unknown role. But for now, it's confirmed. Screen Rant reports that Jones will be in Captain America. The early rumor from the speculation could be saying that Jones is in running for the role of Captain Chester Phillips, the military commander who recruits Steve Rogers into the super-soldier program.

It looks like the hell of Captain America is coming in soon. Jones also have MIB 3 too in the production. Will he largely has a significant role in his busy schedule? probably. With Chris Evans on board as the titular Captain America, and addition of Hayley Atwell (love interest Peggy Carter), Sebastian Stan as Bucky, Hugo Weaving as the villain Red Skull and a rumoured role for Ryan Phillippe.

Not bad since this is Joe Johnston's directing. It's all building up for The Avenger movie a year later. The First Avenger: Captain America will be in theaters on July 22, 2011.

JAKE ABEL JOINS I AM NUMBER FOUR

Comments

Percy Jackson's Jake Abel is joining the cast of the DJ Caruso sci-fi I Am Number Four. The already impressive pool of cast is certain to welcome Abel into the movie. MTV is reporting that Abel will play Mark, a rival to the movie's main character "Number Four" who is played by Alex Pettyfer.

Abel elaborated on his role as:
Mark is a football player at the school and he’s skeptical of [Pettyer's Number Four] because he’s trying to move in on his ex-girlfriend. He’s the high school jock who’s just loaded with insecurities. He masks them with his bravado and intimidation, but he’s threatened because this new kid is coming to school and there’s a lot of attention on him. A lot is happening around him.
I Am Number Four is going for shooting soon with DJ Caruso as the director. Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay serve in as producers. The film has Alex Pettyfer, Dianna Agron, Timothy Olyphant, Teresa Plamer and kevin Durand on board.

THE HOBBITS IS DELAYED, AGAIN AND AGAIN

Comments

While sitting with the press conference for Splice, producer Guillermo del Toro admitted that despite the recent hoo-haa about how The Hobbit been ended up slated for December 2012 and how things have been pretty running from there that a production is near, there is no official go-ahead and not even a start date set yet.

Speaking to Coming Soon, del Toro said:
It's not greenlit. That's categorical. We've been caught in a very tangled negotiation. There cannot be any start dates until the MGM situation gets resolved. They do hold a considerable portion of the rights.
Speaking of that MGM saga which have causes a lot of time been consumed, I suggest that MGM quickly put things to rest or else sells their portion out. Even with scripts in hand, Peter Jackson and del Toro also insisted that the production and casting have been very slow too. On another respond regarding the 3D prospect, he said it remains a possibility and current production budget has been drawn without 3D in mind.

We have designed all the creatures. We've designed the sets and the wardrobe. We have done animatics and planned battles sequences.... We are very, very prepared for when it is finally triggered.
Too bad, Guillermo. Nothing works just yet!!

PLATINUM DUNES PRODUCING NEW TMNT

Comments

Oh really, after a string of modestly accepted horror film remakes at Platinum Dunes, Michael Bay aiming for the next thing to be made - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. TMNT's rights was bought by Paramount last year from the then-holder Mirage and now this announcement is really fresh indeed. The new TMNT live action film is not something fresh in the rumour circulation and has been in talking for awhile.

Paramount/Nicelodeon is aiming to bring the latest film on TMNT together Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes on board. Michael Bay's production studio has been experiencing some reworking on past horror hits like the recent remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and some current projects like I Am Number Four, the Turtle films came as surprising to me.

The new TMNT, in unsure of its direction yet. Could it be a remake, re-launch. or continuing the form it has been? But things at Paramount is inclining for a fresher take of the beloved ninja turtles tale - complete with a new version of the origins of the turtle story, while conceivably taking their look and feel back to the original comics crafted by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird.

IS THE FLASH READY? PROBABLY

Comments

Case was made and we are now waiting for the official. Heat Vision Blog reported that the swift DC Comics - The Flash, may get its releasing soon. After a long running rumours circulating and while various filmmakers and actors have been attached in the past, things have been very slow. Currently, the script is on the writing by Dan Mazeau. The reports from Time Warner (the one who owns Warner Bros Picture) and according to Warner chariman Barry Meyer, Flash is nearing a greenlight status. Thus, we can expect more news coming up sooner revolving this one announcement. But one thing to concern here is that Flash has been on talking points for so long and this could only be a continuation of it. I hope the production really kick starts soon and considering that DC Comics have been greatly lagging behind than what Marvel Studio has been doing, this is a small hope to bundle on.

In the similar presentation by Warner chairman and CEO during the TW's investor day, Meyer announced the 2011 will have about 25 movies slated in and these consists of:
  • Red Riding Hood - April 22
  • The Hangover - May 26
  • Green Lantern (3D) - June 17
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two (3D) - July 15
  • Journey to the Center of the Earth 2 (3D) - September 23
  • Happy Feet 2 (3D) - November 18
  • New Year's Eve - December 9
  • Sherlock Holmes 2 - December 16
Given that 2011 will be the last year with a "Potter" release, Meyer said he guesses that the most successful franchise in motion picture history will have exceeded $7.5 billion in worldwide boxoffice once the final installment ends its theatrical run.

On another keynote, Meyer also expressed his particular interests as that DC Comic characters are the main components of the future in Warner Bros. He also added that Batman 3 (July 20, 2012) and Superman Reboot (holiday 2012) will be the driving factor. Christopher Nolan will be involved on both project. Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Mad characters are also on development too.

CASTING NEWS: JACK, X-MEN FIRST CLASS AND SCREAM 4

Comments
In this double story of casting news, we have Kack and Scream 4 to be dealt with.

First off, the news has came in with John Cusack is going to play the lead role in Jack. Jack is the story of a serial killer who suffers amnesia. After recovering his true nature, he was forced to decide whether to stay on his dark acts or not. Empire has reported that John Cusack has agreed to play the role, from David Venable's script. He is not new with this kind of genre. In the past he has been convincing for his performances in 1408 and Identity. The director Brad Anderson is preparing for the August shooting.

Next, the female lead on Scream 4 has changed hand. Last week, we reported that Ashley Greene will play the new lead role in the slasher Scream 4. Now it appears that things have been on the wrong way. Dimension has quickly found a new replacement or a new casting (am not sure either way) - Emma Roberts. However, there is no official word if Roberts is actually replacing or coming fresh into the film. With a script by franchise creator Kevin Williamson, Scream 4 will kick off shooting under the control of Wes Craven this June in Michigan.

Lastly, we have a news on the latest for X-Men: The First Class. The younger version of Profeesor X or Charles Xavier will be played by *cough* James McAvoy (first shot to fame with Wanted). Kick-Ass' Matthew Vaughn is making the movie at the 20th Century Fox and the movie will introvert back in the earlier days of the X-Men saga. With a summer production planned and a June 2011 release date, we hope to see how this X-Men story could be as mesmerizing as the first X-Men. To be frank, I have never been interested in the saga but with the inclusion Matthew Vaughn, my opinion may change.

Every day you see him on the newspaper comic strip section. He is the office trooper. His comic only happens in the office. He is Dilbert. Going strong even after been around for 21 years now, Dilbert may finally get a movie and it's not just an animation, the fact is that - a live action film is planned. Chris Columbus almost get it up three years ago but due to some problems, the attempt was forfeit. With the news broke out, can the development materialize in the end? Or simply, just another failure to launch?

Since the plan has been made, who suits Dilbert the best? May I suggest Kevin James?

MOVIE REVIEW: PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SAND OF TIME

Comments
PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SAND OF TIME (English/PG13)

Genre: Action/Adventure
Release Date: 27 May 2010
Distributor: Walt Disney
Running Time: 118 minutes
Director: Mike Newell
Producers: Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, Eric Mcleod, Mike Stenson
Writers: Jordan Mechner, Boaz Yakin, Doug Miro, Carlo Bernard
Casts: Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arteton, Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina
Plot: In this most anticipated game-to-movie adaptation, we follow Prince Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) as he teams up with Princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) to stop a ruthless leader from laying his hands on the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can be used to reverse time and rule the world.

THE VERDICT

What makes Jake Gyllenhaal so eager to assist the fallen beauty? Not much, but perhaps the story of the Prince Of Persia can be forgiven for some of its drowsiness it causes and by taking it through a different approach; bold and mannerly done. The whole story in the movie has nothing to do with any plot from the games. Like I once said, there is nothing much to pull off from a video game storyline, take an example like Silent Hill or Doom – but the wild imagination of the peoples behind the Pirates Of The Caribbean had done some decent jobs by giving taking things the other way round. Yes, there is nothing perfect about the movie at all but it definitely stands better among others on the movie-based-on-video-game genre.

Once upon a time in the vast empire of Persia, Prince Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal), whom had no royalty and nobility in his blood, ran across the slum of Nasaf as a cheeky and highly agility orphan kid. Amazed by his courage to stand for justice, he was soon adopted into the family of King Sheraman. 15 years later, he joined the highly-ranks of his brothers Garsiv and Tus and their uncle Nazim (Ben Kingsley) to invade the holy city of Alamut, suspected of selling weapons to the enemy state. Upon the destiny, Dastan found a magical dagger known as The Dagger Of Time which unleashes sands and reverses back the time. Framed for the murder of his father, Dastan became an exile from the his homeland and later teaming up with the beauty Princess Tamina (Gemma Arteton) to embark on a journey that fills with the eager to search the real killer of his father. Soon, he learnt about the potential and the possible destructive power that may happened if the dagger falls into the wrong hands.

Loosely based on Jordan Mechner's video game and infused with 6th century Persian fables and fantasy, director Mike Newell could have done no mistakes. Prince Of Persia is no ordinary Sinbad or Aladdin story. Should I say it lies closely to Indiana Jones? And just because they are Middle Eastern, it does not justify the ban on British accents after all! The positive note is that Prince Of Persia is indeed a surprisingly good. The writing team can come out with a decent and entertaining swashbuckling movie that does not have anything in related to the game, although one may notice the heavy elements borrowed from the games itself. The producers have described the story as comparative to Warrior Within and The Two Thrones, where both games’ elements are incorporated into this. It is decent, fast-paced and innovatively created adventure that is easy to follow, although one must always be cautious of its multiple heavy plots in it. The whole adventure is simply fantastical.

Even with the decent story, there is however some flaws checked in it. Despite the multiple plots been gel together, there is always a possibility that things do not adhere that well. Here it suffers those conventional loose story line and uneven tones, especially the final 30 minutes of the movie which I though was a little too fuzzy. Was it because of the style of film editing? Indeed, the poor film editing has caused many things to breeze through and at times, it felt no connectivity to each other. Camerawork is stunning but deplorable as a lot of dizzying and action cuts are making its round all over the place – it is not that it is bad but the dizzying scenes can be a little annoying! The fleshy finale or rather the anti-climax occurs too sudden. With all the intense battles and the plot build-up, the last 20 minutes is nothing more than a stand-off debates on the morality of the invasion and what’s truth or not. There are also at times that the story may goes a bit off track with the attempts of making jokes that are not so funny and an oddly witty dialogue could means almost nothing.

Prince Of Persia is a good movie if only you consider the finale as a norm flaw. The casting is indeed variety and explorable. Jake Gyllenhaal managed to shun away his boyish persona to become a wild and cheeky character like Prince Dastan. He may not be the best feet to fit in but I think he had done pretty enough to get things kicking. Gemma Arteton’s Tamina is as usual as her role of spiritual divine (just like in Clash Of The Titans) but I noticed that she raise her game higher and for that she is great in. Ben Kingsley and his antagonist role are so familiarize. Just now I said that the jokes aren’t that funny, Alfred Molina’s Sheik Amar did not make things worst. He is truly a comical relief, always with his obsession on ostrich races and evading the taxes.

IN SHORT

With a decently written story, nothing much goes wrong in the movie. It will hopefully give fans something to cheer for and Mike Newell’s glorious efforts in Harry Potter: The Goblet Of Fire has managed to make this swashbuckling sandal-and-sword a very entertaining and joyride. He makes it better than the others. The scar on the climax with the remaining 20 minutes towards the end is something that should not happen but it did happen anyway. Some camera and editing works are questionable. Luckily, the Oscar-winning director of photography John Seale did great visual effects and cinematography, as well as Alfred Molina and Gemma Arteton make this movie impressive, while million tonnes of sands are thrown only to serve you a fun but not an epic.

TRAILER: THE LAST EXORICSM

Comments

Last year's Paranormal Activity became a hit although my review on it has not been so glowing. Nevertheless, the originality and the excellent acting skills did in fact gave the movie a huge chest of gold coins. This summer will definitely end with a bloody one - thanks to Lionsgate's The Last Exorcism.

While the film has been in shade for quite a while, the first trailer has been released and the best thing I get after watching it was goose-bumps and satire because it was not over the top. It is a pure horror and the Eli Roth's production seems to generating a real deal on exorcism.

Watch the trailer below:

The Last Exorcism, opens August 27 this year, is a documentary horror told from a Protestant priest, who turns his back on his religion and practices as part of a documentary the last exorcism. He who believes in God, must also accept the existence of the devil.

The movie has premiered at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and the rights was later picked up by Lionsgate. The movie stars Patrick Fabian, Iris Bahr and Louis Herthum.

ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY REPLACES MEGAN FOX, OFFICIAL!

Comments
Last week, Green Tea Movie reported that either Megan Fox is fired or opted out from the production of Michael Bay's Transformers 3. It is no longer a secret that the brawl of words between the two has uninspire Bay to consider her out.

While rumours in the last few days have been pointing out that some Victoria's Secret model will get a role to replace Megan Fox as Shia LaBeouf's Sam Witwicky's love interest, today the news article at Screen Rant and Deadline confirms it all.

Indeed, Victoria's Secret model was role in. She is Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, whom has no acting experience. Well, when Megan Fox was first role into the franchise in 2007, she has not much acting experience either. At least, I think what Bay did will be similar to how Megan Fox getting fame from and he is doing the same on the model too. This is partly a bad news for outlook of the third film, after suffering a bomb-blast-down to its core with critically panning the second film for non-sense story.

Director Michael Bay and writer Ehren Kruger are finalizing the script and production began on May 17th. The first scenes to be shot for the lead female role begin in about two weeks. Did Bay make a correct choice by casting her in?

NEW IMAGES FROM RESIDENT EVIL 4

Comments
The last time we talked about Resident Evil 4, we have ourselves a breathtaking trailer that borrows a lot from The Matrix. we also have a few images back then and we found out that Wentworth Miller as the iconic Resident Evil hero Chris Redfield is somehow missing.

This time we have some. By the way, go back here to view those images again, and couple with these new one, what say you?

Thanks to Screen Rant and the folks at UGO, we have three more images to gaze on and Miller is in two of those.

Miller (Prison Break) will join Milla Jovovich in the film as Chris Redfield, a brawny warrior and protagonist of the original Resident Evil video game. The character will make his on-screen debut in this new film as he follows Alice to Los Angeles – the setting for the latest battle between the Undead and some of the last surviving remnants of humanity.

Here's the trailer again to warm things up:

Paul WS Anderson's back for the directorial on the franchise since the first Resident Evil back in 2002, will definitely wants you to see it - in glorious 3D and Avatar's technology coming in this September.

JESSE EISENBERG RETEAMS WITH FLEISCHER

Comments

Last time, they both have fun together in the comedy horror flick Zombieland. That was fantastic. Now, Jesse Eisenberg will leave the zombie killing spree for a while, reuniting with director Ruben Fleischer for another new action comedy 30 Minutes Or Less.

The Hollywood reporter also revealed a little bit about its plot - the story finds a high school history teacher (Parks & Recreation’s Aziz Ansari) and Eisenberg’s pizza delivery drone forced to hold up a bank when one of them is strapped into a bomb vest. With Danny McBride and Aziz Ansari already on board, this will be another one hella laughter!

Michael Diliberti and Matthew Sullivan penned the script, which Fleischer is gearing up to direct this summer. Just like its story about a bomb, we hope the movie will be mind-blowing like Zombieland.

TRAILER: MORNING GLORY

Comments

A Bad Robot production - means it's by JJ Abrams himself. The upcoming comedy film by Roger Mitchell (Notting Hill), from as script of Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada) finally has a trailer landed online. The film is slated for a November 12 release later this year.

Morning Glory follows an aspiring news producer (McAdams) tries to save a failing morning show by getting control of its feuding anchors (Ford and Keaton). The romantic comedy is something we are not familiar with JJ Abrams. He is producing it and has Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton and Patrick Wilson on the lead role.

Watch the trailer below:

TRAILER: THE KILLER INSIDE ME

Comments

The Killer Inside Me, released under the banner of Icon and Revolution Films (IFC) had a premier last January at the Sundance. It was later nominated for the Golden Bear at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival and is part of the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival. Finally, the movie will have a limited theatrical release on June 18, 2010.

Nothing is grand enough to inching closer to the release date if not having a trailer accompanying it. Ever since it premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Michael Winterbottom’s adaptation of the Jim Thompson novel The Killer Inside Me has been sparking controversy for Casey Affleck’s portrayal of damaged (and damaging) sheriff’s deputy Lou Ford. I mean, judging by the trailer, he looks amazing. Joining Affleck in the thriller are Jessica Alba, who has a smooth move as the prostitute out of town. Check out the trailer below:

CASTING NOTE CONTINUES ON KUNG FU PANDA 2

Comments
The casting for Dreamworks animation Kung Fu Panda 2 has just expanded to a larger extend. Jack Black is reprising the ass-kicking panda Po and recently Gary Oldman joined him in the movie, playing a rather mysterious character known as Peacock (I am not sure if it is a peacock or just a name sake that day!). The addition on the list has Michelle Yeoh, Jean Claude Van Damme and Victor Garber set to voice the new creatures in the sequel.

Malaysia's Michelle Yeoh will play The Soothsayer (goat), Jean Claude Van Damme will use his throat ability to voice Master Croc (a crocodile of course) while Victor Garber will play Master Thundering Rhino (again, a rhinoceros of course). According to DreamWorks Animations' press release as quoted on Empire Online, it confirms that Gary Oldman will voice a villain peacock, supposedly the character is known as Lord Shen, who commands a group of bandits that Po must fight against.

Besides the names above, everyone (Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, David Cross and James Hong) from the first movie will all return to voice the sequel. It looks like Kung Fu Panda 2: The Kaboom of Doom is kind of rich in star-studded voice talent here. The movie is set for a release on May 27, 2011.

According to the press release again, producer Melissa Cobb also described the synopsis of the film:
In the sequel, Po goes on an amazing personal journey and we are thrilled to have assembled such a talented and well-respected group of actors to bring to life our new characters, who – alongside our returning cast – play such a critical role in Po's quest and his ultimate triumph over the forces of evil.

JERRY BRUCKHEIMER PRODUCING LIGHTSPEED

Comments

With Disney as always, Jerry Bruckheimer has just picked up a new script for the mouse house - a collaborative penning of Terry Rossio and Bill Marsilii. The new script entitled Lightspeed will see Bruckheimer producing the feature film that follows the adventure of a young pilot who wins a place on the Earth Interstellar Racing Team, speeding across a galaxy that is teetering on the brink of war.

Variety reports that the unusual screenplay has no star or director attached yet. It should be interesting to see how this new action adventure will turn out as both has worked with Bruckheimer before. Rossio has worked on Pirates movies for the super producer while Marsilii had Deja Vu with him.

With Bruckheimer Films co-producing the pic, it’s planned as a big live-action adventure that might just arrive in cinemas in shiny 3D. First though, they’ll need to lock down a cast and a director.

Warner Bros has released these character posters and aims at bringing you an inch closer to each of the player.

Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible — inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But, no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming. This summer, your mind is the scene of the crime.
Start quizzing yourself who they really are. After all, Your Mind Is The Scene Of The crime. View the character posters below:

DOMINIC COOPER IS HOWARD STARK?

Comments

Howard Stark is of course the father of Tony Stark. He will play a pivotal role in The First Avenger: Captain America because 1) he existed during the World War 2 2) he co-founded SHIELD 3) he created the shield for Captain America. With all the Marvel news today, it is easy slip or mistaken any of those as rumours. Here is another rumours.

While it becomes a necessary that Howard Stark is a must in the new movie, who can carry his shoe? We do not need John Slattery's version which is a bit too old for the 30-year-old something weaponry whiz in Captain America. We need a younger version and thus comes this rumoured candidate - Dominic Cooper. Is this true? Apparently the news came confirmed by the actor himself during promotional round in Cannes.

Cooper's casting into the Joe Johnston's movie is not a surprising move if it is true that he indeed has signed in for the role. After all for many months, he has been rumoured to play Fandral in Thor and Marvel Studio must have been very pleased with him after all that the role could be his. Like many other things in Marvel Studio, these remain as mysterious as the Nathan Fillon's supposedly locked in for Ant Man. We do not know but coming this July's San Diego Comic Con, we hope to hear for more.

LEGENDARY PICTURES PREP MASS EFFECT MOVIE

Comments

The game adapted Prince Of Persia is releasing this weekend through an effort of Jerry Bruckheimer production. Although the video game genre adaptation is not a sure hit - just look at how terrible Silent Hill, Doom or Resident Evil 3 were, news came in as Legendary Pictures (with the usual Warner Bros partnership) is preparing Mass Effect in the movie form.

Empire Online reported via source from The Heat Vision Blog that Legendary and producer Avi Arad have snapped up the Bioware's title game. Mass Effect follows Commander Shepard in the year 2183, who explores the galaxy in the SSC Normandy, encountering various conflicts with the alien races. Although there are several plot potential in the game that can be used for the movie's plot, I still feel doubt about it. Even plots in games like Doom or Silent Hill failed to achieve a sort of comprehend-able and great story plot, the worry is can they make it a better war film beyond those game's plots.

According to Wikipedia, Mass Effect primary revovles on:
Inside the game universe, mass effect is a newly discovered (for humans anyway) physics phenomenon that has properties along the lines of other physics forces such as gravity and electromagnetism. It’s what physicists in real life are currently calling "dark energy", as an explanation for the accelerating expansion of the universe — which has only recently been discovered and flies in the face of the previous notion that the universe’s expansion should be slowing down because of gravity.

Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend) will write a script. With this development, Mass Effect joins the like of BioShock in the game-spirited movies in current production.

RIDLEY SCOTT ACQUIRING A 3D COMPANY FOR PARTNERSHIP

Comments

The Vulture Blog reprted that Ridley Scott is in the middle to form a partnership with Symphony 3D, which manufactures 3D glasses and the MasterImage 3D projection screen. If this by any true, would it means Ridley Scott is also keen on the latest technology that Roger Ebert really despise on?

3D is the new and current hoo-hah thing. Avatar grossed US$ 748 million on domestic box office with 83% comes from the inflated 3D ticket price. So did Avatar justifies the record or it is just to make it so? 3D for many is just a gimmick and while debates continue to argue the significant or necessity to equip it on movies, Scott his beginning to look ahead.

It is no surprising that Scott would go to work with a 3D company, considering he is about to start making his planned aliens prequel (presumably in two-parts) soon. Perfectly timing and perfectly argued that the prequels will be in grand garole of 3D too. We are not sure when the all talked about Aliens prequel is going to be made but one thing for sure, going back to the Aliens on Scott style would be perfect.

Head over to NYMag Vulture Blog to read about the advantage of the partnership - apparently your 3D tickets will be cheaper than the usual.

IS HITMAN 2 POSSIBLY IN THE MAKING?

Comments

Make no mistake and the answer for the question is indeed yes! 20th Century Fox is aiming to bring Agent 47 aka Hitman back to life. After a dismay performance for the first one coupled with poor critic reception and a US$ 100 million cash, Deadline revealed that Spanish director Daniel Benmayor is in talk to direct the sequel.

If Benmayor agreed, this will be his first English-language directorial. Hitman 2 is currently penned by Kyle Ward, who is also responsible for the later this year's Kane & Lynch movie (Bruce Willis/Jamie Foxx in yet another game adaptation).

The big question is will Timothy Olyphant returns for the role? Not so sure at the moment but Fox is optimist that he will. Recently, Olyphant was casted to replace Sharlto Copley in the alien pic I Am Number Four and is doing well with his TV series Deadwood and the upcoming Justified.

SAM ROCKWELL DELIVERS SWEET BABY JESUS

Comments

According to the people in Deadline, Sam Rockwell has been approach to play the role of Sweet Baby Jesus' father Joe, alongside the already signed-up Brit popstar Pixie Lott who will play the modern-day Mary. The film will be Peter Hewitt's direction that takes a modern look for the Yule season.

The modern day story of the Nativity will see the traveling couple - Joe and his pregnant girlfriend Mary are on their way to Bethlehem, Maryland. During the journey, they get swept by the media furore over a Second Coming. Kim Cattrall will be playing Mary's mom Darlene while Bette Midler will be the innkeeper.

The story takes a parallel relative setting of the Gospel's Nativity story, adapting it into a modern setting. Sam Rockwell has said, "I loved it. It made me laugh out loud," when responding to the concept of the movie. I hope he is right! Nevertheless, Sam Rockwell has been critically good especially with his lauding performance in Moon and the recently take off Iron Man 2.

Filming will start this August in Maryland and Ireland. Hopefully, it will be ready for the next Christmas season.

UNCLE BOONMEE WON THE CANNES TOP PRIZE, NOT WITHOUT CONTROVERSIAL

Comments

The 2010 63rd Cannes Film Festival ended on Sunday night after more than a week of festivity. Of all the glamorous news that include the opening of Robin Hood and what's not, the prize giving ceremony last night was enough to sparkle more controversy.

The coveted Palme d'Or prize was awarded to Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul's Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. The jury - headed by US director Tim Burton and along with actors Benicio Del Toro and Kate Beckinsale selected the Thai film over juries favourite Of Gods And Men marking the first Asian film since 1997 to win the top prize. Uncle Boonmee depicts the last days of the title character, together with his loved ones – including the ghost of his dead wife and his lost son who has returned in a non-human form – Boonmee explores his past lives as he contemplates the reasons for his illness.

The runner up Grand Prix prize was awarded to one of the front runner film, Of Gods and Men, a French drama by director Xavier Beauvois. The movie centers around an actual event in 1996, where seven French Trappist monks were kidnapped and beheaded in Algeria.

Mathieu Almaric, the once villain in Bond's Quantum Of Solace, won the Best Director award (Prix de la mise en scene) for his direction in On Tour, while Lee Chang-dong won the Best Screenplay (Prix du scenario) for the script of Poetry. Chad's very own Mahamat-Saleh Haroun won the bronze's Jury's Prize (third prize of Prix du Jury) with his film A Screaming Man.

Best Actors award was awarded to Javier Bardem (Biutiful) and Elio Germano (Our Life) while the Best Actress goes to Juliette Binoche for her role in Certified Copy.

This year's Cannes Film Festival is not without a controversy. The critics lamented this year's nominated films as been subpar in quality while other accused the snub at the expenses of British's Mike Leigh (Another Year) and Ken Loach (Route Irish).

According to BBC,
In retrospect, one would be hard pressed to find a film more in tune with Burton's Gothic sensibilities and appetite for the outlandish. Critics have heaped praise on Weerasethakul's movie, though a number felt it was too esoteric to scoop Cannes' highest honour. The praise has been far from universal either, with one British reviewer describing it as "unwatchable".
You can read more about the criticism surrounding this year's Cannes at BBC. With the winning of a Thai film, Cannes bid farewell and will be back again next year for more.
