UPDATES ON FINAL DESTINATION 5

Comments

If you think that cheating deaths are excitingly ridiculous nowaday, try imagine yourself buying MYR19 3D ticket to watch people die in sequence after cheating deaths by seeing some awkward premonition (plus in eye-popping 3D!). Does that sounds anything familiar to you? Or which is more fun I ask? Well apparently we were fooled that the fourth Final Destination was the last. New Line Cinemas think it would be fun to add another one. Yes, they have been planning all of these fifth Final Destination for quite sometimes now.

Last April, New Line Cinemas greenlight the fifth installment in the aging Final Destination franchise with Eric Hesserier was hired to script the movie. Earlier this month, James Cameron protege, steven Quale has signed up to direct the new movie. Now we have more key updates on the fifth installment.

A run across Bloody Disgusting revealed two things, are you ready? Since I won't let you know that soon, read about some key details after the jump.

ANDY SERKIS JOINS RISE OF THE APES

Comments

According to 20th Century Fox, Andy Serkis who was popular as Gollum/Smeagol in the Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy will return to team up with the WETA Digital team again for Rise of the Apes. The prequel film is now picking up some more momentum as they head for a summer production very soon. The studio announced on Twitter that Andy Serkis will do the performance capture for Caesar. On the previous post about this movie, we mentioned that Caesar is one of the test subject in which James Franco's role rescued from other scientist due to his rapid evolution. It becomes clear now that Caesar will go on to lead the simian revolt against humanity.
This is cool: Gollum reteams with Weta. Andy Serkis to star as Caesar in "Rise of the Apes," portraying chimp who leads the simian revolt.
Chris Petrikin, 20th Century Fox CC on Twitter.

Rise of the Apes will take audience to a modern-setting present day San Francisco, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. WETA announced previously that the simians in the new movie will not be some prosthesis monkey but will be all on the motion capture or computer generated (CG).

With Rupert Wyatt on the director seat, Rise of the Apes has already have some key casting lately with James Franco (scientist), John Lithgow (his Alzheimer's-stricken father) and Freida Pinto (primatologist). Mark your planner for June 24, 2011 for the release.

ALICE EVE TO PLAY EMMA FROST IN X-MEN?

Comments
Alice Eve is now in talks to take on the role of Emma Frost in Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class as reported by Deadline. We all know that X-Men: First Class will serve as a prequel to the X-Men trilogy and we also already know that James McAvoy will play the lead role of Professor X, opposite Michael Fassbander who will take on the role of Magneto.

Eve is getting a lot of limelights these days following her breakout role in She's Out Of My League. Her portrayal of Emma Frost should be exciting since she is sizzling hot, just like the her real person =) Frost is a telepathic femme fatale in an unlikely outfit. She first served a member of deadly Hellfire Club as White Queen before switching her allegiance to Prof X mutants allied.

X-Men: First Class will begin shooting soon in London. We hope to see the best of the franchise when the movie is ready for release by next summer.

FIRST IMAGE OF PRIEST IS ONLINE

Comments
Sony Screen Gems previously had this movie released this coming August but then pushed back to the blizzard winter months. But recent inclusion of 3D feel pushes the movie again for next May release. Priest has a sort of problems for making the dateline but with Sony bumping it to a summer start, it seems that they have plenty of faith in it. For those who have been following Priest closely, we know that the movie is currently under post-production works on refurbishing them into a more eye-popping 3D styles.

Bloody Disgusting updated the Scott Stewart's second direction which is based on TokyoPop adaptation, originally a comic written by Hyung Min-Woo, with a fresh hi-resoultion image. Priest which sets 100 years from now, stars Paul Bettany (second time teaming with Stewart after lackluster Legion back in January) who turn his back against the church, sworn to fight the vampires after the abduction of his niece. Karl Urban is the vampire leader, a Satanist.

Cam Gigandet (The Unborn, Pandorum, The Roommate, Twilight), Madchen Amick, Stephen Moyer ("True Blood"), Maggie Q., Christopher Plummer, Brad Dourif, and Alan Dale also star. For the piece of hi-resolution image, go to after jump.

MAFIA WARS PLANNED FOR A MOVIE ADAPTATION

Comments

Gamers and movie-goers know the differents between a game and a movie. Those platforms of amusement provide different types of entertainment to the users. Games are usually more interactive while a movie provides a third-person view of a story of something. Likewise, both entertainment can still be fun or bored you to dead or worst been crappy! However, Hollywood has make the line between a game and a movie very blur these days. Proof? You have Prince Of Persia movie and you also have Resident Evil movies. Be assured, not every movie based on games is a failure; while not all is successful either.

Just when you thought games from PS3, XBox or simple GameBoy were the main target for Hollywood make-over, think again! Nobody sees this coming but now you have one - Facebook games. Pajiba reported that Facebook's phenomenon game all about been a thud and Mafia will be made into a movie. I'm sure many will be thrilled or shocked to hear this but yes, Mafia Wars is being made into a movie (soon). For more details, make an after jump at Read More.

JOHN LASSETER CO-DIRECTS CARS 2 WITH BRAD LEWIS

Comments
Toy Story 3 is still posing up good numbers around the world and most probably it will be one of the biggest animation on the box office figure. Pixar has already look up for next year when they have aimed to bring the audience to yet another sequel - Cars 2. Disney's Pixar announced that John Lasseter will co-direct Cars 2 along side Brad Lewis. The announcement was made recently at Disney's Holiday Showcase, which also elaborated some of the key details regarding the sequel that ease the weariness among those who have been following the production.

Cars 2, is of course, the sequel to the 2006's animation which features the voice casting of Owen Wilson and the late Paul Newman. Although Cars received the lowest rating ever for Pixar (with 75% on Rotten Tomatoes), it is still a movie that was part of the eleven continuous positive reviews streak for Pixar. 4 years have gone and the new sequel is about to come in, but not without some glitches. Speculation behind the uncertainty around the directorial responsibilities and the sudden move that saw Cars 2 bumped from 2012 to 2011 added in some chaotic. However, Pixar reassures the fans that these were not serious threatsand the second chapter of Lightning McQueen's adventure will continue to charm.

BURTON'S THE ADDAMS FAMILY IS ON THE MOVE

Comments
Over the weekend, ComingSoon reported that producer Christopher Meledandri has spoke to them during press junket of Despicable Me regarding the on fire rumor about an animated version of The Addmas Family. Meledandri confirmed that such project is now on the go with involvement by Tim Burton and under Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures.

Back in March, it was heavily rumored that this animated version of the comics ran by Charles Addams in The New Yorker would be the next project for Tim Burton, who we knew has big fat money occupied from making Alice In Wonderland for Disney recently. However, Burton has not lined up any possible next project yet although he has plenty of them been attached in. Meledandri hoped that Burton will indeed direct the animation, which supposedly a stop-motion and in 3D.

Meledandri stressed that the project is still in its initial stage and the studio has already geared up for a stop-motion, based closely to the original comics than the previous film or television adaptations.
It's all very, very early, but we are developing with [Tim Burton directing] in mind... We're just now at the story phase. Stuff has been written as though we are doing it in black and white, but that's not correct. It's not incorrect, but it's not correct. We haven't gotten to that point.
Christopher Meledandri, producer.

A check at Screen Rant reviewed that The Addams Family is not the only thing Burton is currently eyeing for. There are several others to choose for - Dark Shadows, Monsterpocalypse, Frankenweenie, Mai the Psychic Girl, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Maleficent. So will Burton choose Addams over the others?

BOX OFFICE WATCH: WEEK 26 OF 2010

Comments
Week 26/2010
US BOX OFFICE WEEKEND 25-27 June 2010

Toy Story 3 easily kept much of its business intact again to lead the box office weekend in United States. Two debutants with plenty of stars failed to unseat the Pixar’s eleventh mega hit on top. Adam Sandler’s Grown Up has a standard start but Tom Cruise’s Knight & Day opened in a rather softer than usual for the star. Overall, the top ten films this weekend grossed an estimated $154.2 million (down 19% when Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen opened on top last year with $109 million; and down 13% from 2008 when Wall-E debuted at number one with $63.1 million).

[NUMBER 1] Toy Story 3 remained on top in its sophomore session, generating another round of $59.0 million on the weekend, representing a large drop of 47%. While the drop seems large, it shouldn’t be a worrying facts to panic because Toy Story 3 is a sequel; means it is usually front-loaded. With summer holiday is now on its peak season and more kids are out of school, expect the business to bloom more than usual. You might need to add in the stellar critical reviews and you get a possible longevity performance until Fourth of July. Reaching $400 million for Toy Story 3 seems possible. For now, the ten day total for the 3D animation stood at $226.6 million, almost there to unseat Shrek 4 as the year’s highest grossing animation.

[NUMBER 2] Adam Sandler returned to the genre him familiar for – broad comedy and has landed with $41.0 million opening for Grown Ups. The broad comedy about 5 best pals reunites after years to commemorate the death of their school’s teacher co-starring Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider and Salma Hayek. The star-driven comedy didn’t attract any much good reviews but was still enough to give Sandler his fourth best opening of his career. Only The Longest Yard ($47.6 million), Anger Management ($42.2 million) and Big Daddy ($41.5 million) did better. Long term run may be enough to sail the comedy to pass the nine-digit plateau.

PARAMOUNT HAS INVESTED $280 MILLION ON THE LAST AIRBENDER

Comments

M Night Shyamalan expressed his hopes to turn 'The Last Airbender' into a huge franchise. Let's look at this way, the movie itself is a genuine departure from Shyamalan's comfort zone of supernatural thrills and what would be among his first movie which is not written by him. LA Times reported that The Last Airbender is now at a cost of $280 million. The project is a risk for both Paramount and Shyamalan to handle where the number includes $150 million production budget and a further $130 million marketing budget.

Since Shyamalan received a phenomenon in 1999, due to the hit success of The Sixth Sense, he is Hollywood's prodigal storyteller in creating surprises to his audiences. The Unbreakable was equally stunning while Signs relied heavily on the perpetual aspect of believing what we see and what we feel to develop a deep connection into inner soul to the thriller. The Village begins to suffer a sort of burn out and his filmography suffers a stumble with Lady In The Water and The Happening.

While he has up and down in the Tinseltown business, Shyamalan is seeking the only possible redemption by taking a movie with a franchise potential. After juggling those options, he finally settled with The Last Airbender and he did a lot for the movie too. Production wise, with a grand scale of FX and the 3D incorporated with the movie, this is Shyamalan's biggest movie ever in terms of production. There is plenty of hefty works on the movie and long post-production justifying Shyamalan's commitment to creating a franchise. He also envision Last Airbender as a trilogy and a chance for him to channel the area of his interest into the movie: martial arts, mysticism and spirituality.

Special effects look great and those CGIs has been choking up the sums of budget. The casting looks relatively unknown and Slumdog Millionaire's Dev Patel is virtually unrecognized in the movie as one of the Fire Nation prince. Marketing has been aggressive lately with lots of TV spots and tie-in merchandising. Shyamalan himself approached McDonald's to work on The Last Airbender Happy Meals and also appearing in TV spots selling Last Airbender Flip video cameras too. The Nickelodeon has promoted the film heavily on its channel and also cross the film into the other sister channels of Nickelodeon like MTV, Comedy Central, Spike TV and CMT. (These TV channels belong to Viacom and related to Paramount Pictures). This is undeniably the stretch he has gone to make this film works.
For the last 10 years, I've been working in a cottage industry of the supernatural. And I've always had my eye on doing a franchise.
M Night Shyamalan, director

Well we hope all the best for Shyamalan. The Last Airbender is a hard stuff to sell but it is a family movie. For that, it remains a risky business to be eschewed by anyone.

CASTING NEWS: LAKE BELL AND TERESA PALMER LEAVES

Comments
Today, we are reporting two separate departure news on two different movies. It looks like Lake Bell won't be in Wes Craven's Scream 4 after all while Teresa Palmer claimed that she was never cast in Mad Max 4: Fury Road. Now we have two things to talk about.

First up, if you have been following Green Tea Movie, we reported several weeks ago that Scream 4 is in full production to gear up and Lake Bell is one of those with the role. Bell originally casted to play a police office who knew Sidney (Neve Campbell) from her younger day. The news of her departure was announced on her Twitter:
Sucks: Scheduling conflicts with my current gig means I cant do #Scream4! (Hey horror bloggers, I know who the killer is...) #i'llnevertell

TEASER TRAILER: RED AND IT'S DANGEROUSLY RETIRED

Comments
Don't worry about the odd title, but in general speaking this post refers to the release of the teaser trailer for Summit Entertainment and DC Comics latest adaptation from the comic of same name by Warren Ellis, Red. This must be the first time DC Comics doing a movie outside Warner Bros but those ain't important. For most, it involves guns, more guns, Bruce Willis and Helen Mirren! Now what if I say Queen Elizabeth (Mirren) handles gun too?

Robert Schwentke will direct after the last time we see him in last year's The Time Traveler's Wife, while Lorenzo di Bonaventura produces. The script was written by Jon and Erich Hoeber. The film stars Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman and John Malkovich.

Red is the story of Frank Moses (Willis), a former black-ops CIA agent, who is now living a quiet life. That is, until the day a hi-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him. With his identity compromised and the life of the woman he cares for, Sarah (Parker), endangered, Frank reassembles his old team (Freeman, Malkovich and Mirren) in a last ditch effort to survive; according to synopsis released by Summit.

Here is the teaser trailer for you:

Red arriving this October 15. Hopefully this DC won't follow what The Losers and Jonah Hex did!

TEASER TRAILER: LITTLE FOCKERS

Comments
The first teaser for the upcoming holiday season's The Little Fockers has arrived on the net. Directed by Paul Weitz from John Hamburg's script, the sequel to Meet The Parents and Meet The Fockers is one of the earliest winter movie to roll in some trailer action. We already have seen some from Tron Legacy and The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage of Dawn Treader and now we have the Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro's escalating test of wills to be seen for.

Everyone is returning to reprise their roles. Ben Stiller is still Greg Foster who has some conflicts with Jack Brynes (played by Robert De Niro). The film stars Teri Polo (Greg's wife and Jack's daughter), Blythe Danner (Jack's wife), Barbra Streisand (Greg's mom) and Owen Wilson. The film also stars Jessica Alba and Harvey Keitel.

The third Fockers film will revolve around the Focker couple trying to cope with raising their 5 year-old twin and Greg's entering a mid-life crisis. He also begins to worry about being a good father and obtaining a stable job earning money for his family. This leads Jack to become highly suspicious once again about what is going on with Greg. Confrontations and conflicts follow. The Little Fockers open December 22 and watch the teaser trailer below:

FASSBANDER WILL BE MAGNETO

Comments

Michael Fassbander has accepted the role of Magneto, opposite James McAvoy's Professor X in the upcoming X-Men: First Class. Previously it was just a rumour, considering Fassbander has people from X-Men: First Class and Spider-Man reboot were trying to court him. Now, it is clear that he sided the former, reported MTV based on news at Showbiz411.

With Matthew Vaughn, the same man who brought you Kick-Ass this fall on directing duty, it seems that X-Men: First Class has already giving in much level of anticipation we hope for. While I have never been a vivid fan of X-Men series, something stroked me to do so on this one. Not only the names like James McAvoy, Matthew Vaughn and Fassbander are enough to impress me, but the fact that Bryan Singer is back into the film as a producer does give some fondest memory of how great the first X-Men movie was.

X-Men: First Class is Fox's venture into the early days of the X-mutants, which kickstarting the franchise in a fresh direction. Previously there were many wild rumours (not reported here) on other possible castings too. While those are still waiting for some other days to confirm, we are now settled in the comforting news that we have McAvoy and Fassbander in. Other casting members that have signed in include Ben Walker (Beast), Amber Heard (Mystique) and Rosamund Pike (Moira MacTaggert).

X-Men: First Class by Matthew Vaughn will open 3 June 2011.

NEW INCEPTION PHOTOS - BATCH 3

Comments

I think this is Batch 3! The first batch of photos are available here while the second one is here. PRINCE OF PERSIA THE HIGHEST VIDEO GAME MOVIE

Comments

Prince Of Persia in many aspect is not a box office winner. With just $82 million in US and another $213 million from foreigner's chest, it is however enough to get himself at least one recognition. Do your maths and sums that up, you get a total of $295 million worldwide. That's the number anyone would love to break to become the highest grossing video game movie of all time.

With the help of ticket inflation, the Mike Newell's fantasy adaptation of Prince Of Persia beat Lara Croft: Tomb Raider whose previous amount of $274 million was the highest since 2001. Things may still victorious enough for Prince Of Persia if attendance is taking into account yet.

Well, a little victory is still a victory. With 3D and inflation still storming hard on today's box office, one would expect this September's Resident Evil: Afterlife will do the same thing and challenge the $295 million run. Like Screen Rant mentioned, "Is it a coincidence that one of the few video game movies that doesn’t suck is the one to make the most money?"

So what do you think of Prinde Of Persia been the highest-grossing video game movie of all time?

EARLY REVIEW ON INCEPTION: IT GLOWS

Comments
One big news that hits the Tinseltown yesterday was the early review of inception by Rolling Stone's Peter Travers. Peter Travers gives the upcoming Christopher Nolan's sci-fi-heist-mind-bending-thriller Inception a 3 1/2 star review - almost a perfect score. Almost perfect sounds good considering the lackluster strings of this summer releases that fell to impress the critics and nonetheless the box office performance. 2010's summer is by far one of the weakest in terms of attendance and ticket sales, from a string of disappointment from Robin Hood to The A-Team. Will Inception joins Toy Story 3 as one of those rare fresh summer hits?

The answer is possible. While Peter Traver's full review is not online yet, Indiewire quoted an article by New York Post's Lou Lumenick that has some lines about the review from Travers.

Read at your own risk (WARNING: Semi-spoiler ahead):
The mind-blowing movie event of the summer arrives just in time to hold back the flow of Hollywood sputum that’s been sliming the multiplex. ‘Inception’...will be called many things, starting with James Bond Meets ‘The Matrix.’ You can feel the vibe of Ridley Scott’s ‘Blade Runner’ in it, and Nolan’s own ‘Memento’ and ‘The Dark Knight.’ But ‘Inception’ glows with a blue-flame intensity all its own. Nolan creates a dream world that he wants us to fill with our own secrets. I can’t think of a better goal for any filmmaker.

DANIEL DAY-LEWIS IS MORIARTY?

Comments

Who has watched last December's mega-hit Sherlock Holmes? Yes, I mean the one with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law in it! Chances are you may have and you might be wondering who played the chalky-bits and anonymous nerdy villain Prof Moriarty on that. Well, no need to discuss who played him in the first movie because it will remain as anonymous as possible.

Since Guy Ritchie and the gang has step up the gear for the production of the sequel, it will be interesting to see everyone is back to reprise their roles in the second outing in Sherlock Holmes 2, plus Prof Moriarty. The big question is who will play the witty villain?

While in most cases in the past, rumours are strong that Brad Pitt is the strongest name and it has been mentioned before in Green Tea Movie last year as the matter of fact. Although reports of denial emerge later, the name of Brad Pitt remains the most possible. However, Superhero Hype and Screen Rant has added another name in for the role - Daniel Day Lewis.

Superhero Hype also claim that other A-lister actors linked to the role as rumoured include Sean Penn, Javier Bardem and Gary Oldman. Although the three latter mentioned sounds great and exciting, I will still put my money on either Pitt or Lewis. Lewis, an Irish/British with lots of acting credits in his hands is one of the most gifted actor coming out of the land of Britain with his award-winning performances in Gangs Of New York and There Will Be Blood. We have no words on when filming will start after all!

CASTING NOTES: FOOTLOOSE

Comments

More and more 80's nostalgias are relived!! The latest, 1984 film in which Kevin Bacon stars as a hip hop teen from Chicago who butts heads with the local boys in his new home in the old-fashioned West; Footloose will get a treatment akin to The Karate Kids or Red Dawn. Footloose remake will be directed and written by Craig Brewer who made an impact with Hustle & Flow few years back.

Paramount Pictures has announced the casting for the remake of movie which centred arounf the conflicts within the community whom despise dancing and rock music. The new faces are Kenny Wormald, Miles Teller, Dennis Quaid and Julianne Hough.

Kenny Wormald will steps into the shoe of Bacon and he is the familiar face behind MTV's Dancelife. Ok, that should suits him well with all these dancing and footloose! Julianne Hough on the other hand will take on the role of the love interest and daughter of the small town's conservative preacher (Dennis Quaid). Miles Teller will play a knuckle-headed local that befriends Wormald’s city boy.

Brewer will take the screenplay into his own creation that will loosely adapts the original Dean Pitchford's work in the 80s. Another remake of the 80's is on the way and we expect the remake to make it into the theaters in the US next year.

THE LAST AIRBENDER OFFERS MORE CLIPS ON FACEBOOK

Comments
In an usual custom for any movie these days to usually roll out a package of interesting trailers, features and TV spots always accompanies a movie prior its release, we have seen a handful of those for Inception, a highly eagerly awaited heist sci-fi flick from Christopher Nolan. The same can be applied to Paramount's most eagerly awaited live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon The Last Airbender too. Few days ago, I was tipped off by an e-mail which has been on the Junk-box. LITHGOW AND PINTO CONFIRMS FOR RISE OF THE APES

Comments

The Hollywood Reporter reported that both John Lithgow and Freida Pinto are coming on board to the prequel to Planet Of The Apes, as confirmed by 20th Century Fox. The Rupert Wyatt's direction which aimed for release next June already have James Franco already casted last month, playing a scientist who have been working on a cure for Alzheimer's.

The story of Rise Of The Apes should be a no surprise one after all but here are some details about its story after all. The genetic engineering research in finding the cure is conducted on a bunch of apes. According to Heat Vision, One of the test subject named Caesar evolves rapidly and the scientist has no choice but to take him home to live with and protects him from cruel doctors. John Lithgow will play Franco's Alzheimer's-stricken dad while Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto will play a primatologist.

Shooting will start soon in British Columbia for a release date on 24 June 2011. The script is written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver with Peter Chernin on producer's seat. It was previously reported in Green Tea Movie that the special effects will be provided by Peter Jackson's WETA. The apes will be in CGIs rather than the prosthesis technique you have seen in 2001's Tim Burton's version. I am excited to see how will this movie head to considering nobody really bother to look on Tim Burton's version of Planet Of The Apes, not even mark Wahlberg.

Comments
Yahoo Movie premiered the first theatrical trailer for Sony's upcoming crime busting pair of The Green Hornet. The movie will be presented in 3D is scheduled to open on January 14, 2011. I will comment briefly about the trailer after this.

The Green Hornet, is an upcoming superhero action film from Sony. It is taken from the popular radio and TV series that revolves around the character of Green Hornet/Britt Reid, a newspaper publisher, who is secretly the masked crimefighter and his sidekick Kato, an Asian valet and sidekick, who is expertly proficient in martial arts. The one-season TV series during the 60s was so popular, when Bruce Lee was Kato and Van Williams was the Green Hornet. Remember, it was Bruce Lee, yes that Bruce Lee! In the new version, Seth Rogen and Jay Chou will play the vital roles, while the film will also stars Cameron Diaz and Christoph Waltz.

RUMOUR HAS NEILL BLOMKAMP IS HELMING THE HOBBIT

Comments

The story surrounding MGM's The Hobbit has always been very intriguing. The movie was delayed yet again and again, has caused several major shakes since few weeks ago. Guillermo del Toro the original director left the production due to commitment on other projects. Since then, there's been so much discussion on who should take over. I have enlisted three possible and suitable directors (Alfonso Cuaron, Neill Blomkamp and Andrew Adamson) by the way which I think have the most resemblence to del Toro in terms of visionary. Peter Jackson has said that he will direct only if he need to while both Warner Bros and MGM have expressed strong interest in having him to direct. Besides him, there were few others that has been showing interests - David Yates, David Dobkin and Brett Ratner.

Screen Rant, Empire Online and TheOneRing(dot)net reported that District 9 director Neill Blomkamp is currently the top potential director to take over del Toro's job. It's still a RUMOUR and no verification can be given at the moment. The news broke out at TheOneRing(dot)net claimed that the "spy report" is "cold, hard, unsurprising fact."

Now, first of all, I won't be surprise if Blomkamp is taking over the job form the Mexican director who has helped Jackson in various aspects of the production. Considering Peter Jackson and Blomkamp are close friends with the former taking up a mentor role over the latter, I think this will combination may works well. This formula first proved successful when Blomkamp managed to make some awesome concept on Halo movie before the project was scrapped. Then, they came with last summer surprise hit District 9 - earning Oscar nods for Best Picture and the Best Movie in Green Tea Movie. Indeed there are worries on whether Blomkamp can take on the challenge of The Hobbit since it is not anything closer to sci-fi action, I would only  say that I know he can do a great job with this film. But another fact need to be considered is what is going to happen to the planned new sci-fi pic and District 9 sequel? Will he leave them if he was offered the lucrative contracts?

BOX OFFICE: WEEK 25 OF 2010

Comments

Week 25/2010
US BOX OFFICE WEEKEND 18-20 June 2010

This week, the ever famous toys collection from Pixar are back in theaters and easily the number one movie of the week. Also arriving but shot dead on arrival is DC Comics' Jonah Hex. The Pixar's beloved tale of Toy Story 3 easily raked in $109 million over the weekend, enough to secure the second spot for the highest-grossing start behind Shrek The Third. That figure also put Toy Story 3 the tenth biggest opening ever (of course with some help from 3D premium charges). Toy Story 3 is also the highest-grossing opening of June, edging last year's Transformers 2. Overall, the weekend business is up by 29% compared to the same weekend last year.

[NUMBER 1] Pixar made 11 out of 11 blockbusters so far - no miss! Toy Story 3 became their highest launch ever, out-pacing previous height of The Incredibles' $70.5 million. By comparison, the first Toy Story made $29.14 million on first weekend while Toy Story 2 doubled that figure to a $57.4 million opening. The popularity of the franchise is nevertheless still phenomenon even after a long gap of 11 years and those who have watched the previous films would love to come back for a third adventure - supposedly the last one. 3D comprised 60% of the overall business, comparable to Shrek Forever After.

[NUMBER 8] Jonah Hex saw a disastrous opening. Arriving at eighth place with a disturbing figure of $5.1 million, the Warner Bros film grossed one of the smallest opening for a summer action film. The opening figure is completely misfires as Jonah Hex is supposedly served as a counter-programming of Toy Story 3. By comparison, last DC's production, The Losers made $9.4 million! The Josh Brolin, Megan Fox and John Malkovich film failed to launch and further cemented by the fact that none of the cast can really open a film. Jonah Hex will open in Malaysia later this year.
