WATCH 3 MINUTES OF ACTIONS ON RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE

Comments

Thanks to Screen Rant, we can now enjoy the action-packed three minutes from Sony Screen Gems' upcoming sequel to the popular game franchise Resident Evil. Shot in 3D a-la the style of technology invented by James Cameron himself, Resident Evil Afterlife picked up where we were left in the third movie. While I have to say I never enjoy the second and third installment of the movie, this could be slightly different. Paul WS Anderson returns to direct this movie, after directing the first installment back in the early of the last decade; and Milla Jovovich will reprise her role of Alice.

Anyway, here are the three clips for you to enjoy.

The first one, we see Alice and Claire attempted to land their plane atop of a building where the survivors of LA are hanging on.

The second clip shows Alice frantically jump off the building after been chased by a horde of zombies. Then she landed safely and continues to shoot zombies. Isn;t shooting zombies fun?

TRAILER: 127 HOURS

Comments
The Oscar-winning director's Danny Boyle has finally slated a trailer and a first look on his upcoming movie, 127 Hours. The movie depicted the real story based on mountain climber Aron Ralston's (played by James Franco) remarkable adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah. Over the next five days Ralston examines his life and survives the elements to finally discover he has the courage and the wherewithal to extricate himself by any means necessary, scale a 65 foot wall and hike over eight miles before he is finally rescued.

127 Hours was announced last year and has shooting last spring. The movie is written by Boyle himself together with Simon Beaufroy - the same team that won them awards for Slumdog Millionaire. The biography movie has now a trailer and my first impression is that; like many of imaginative movies from Boyle, this one has not much different at all. We know that from series of movies like Sunshine or 28 Days Later, Boyle has established himself as the story teller that can push things beyond the imaginary line. After all, 127 Hours is presented with a cool adventurous style of story pacing before things turn ugly in the end.

Anyway, enjoy the trailer below. 127 Hours will be opening on 5 November in USA but no words on Malaysian release yet.

US BOX OFFICE WEEKEND 20-22 August 2010
This week in US Box Office, studio filled the weekend by dumping five wide releases, but none made any impact to the movie-goers, thus resulting in a second week stay atop for Stallone and his gang. The Expendables grossed up another estimated $16.5 million, a drop from last week's opening gross by 52.6%. The Expendables continued to trail behind last year's similar men-on-mission movie Inglourious Basterds by a fractional margin witht he Brad Pitt-starer has collected about $73 million in the same period. After 10 days, the macho men movie has raked in $64.9 million for Lionsgate, performing much better than Rambo. On record, The Expendables is now the fifth highest grossing movie on the studio history.

Week 32/2010
US BOX OFFICE WEEKEND 6-8 August 2010
In the same weekend when District 9 was open to a rave reviews last year, the love for 80's action-stars ruled this weekend when Sylvester Stallone and his gang open to number one on the US Box Office with a muscular $35 million chest money. The opening weekend for The Expendables was a bit less than Inglourious Basterds' $38.1 million last August, but it was greater than The A-Team's $25.7 million and nearly doubled Rambo's $18.2 million. It also was the highest-grossing debut of Sylvester Stallone's career, although not in terms of attendance. The Expendables has a great news last week with a possible sequel greenlight to give ahead by the studio Lionsgate.

THE AVENGERS SHOOTING BEGINS NEXT FEBRUARY

Comments
According to SuperHero Hype, it was made to understand now that Paramount Pictures (who has a striking deal with Marvel Studios on anything related to The Avengers) is preparing the production of the ambitious mega superheroes movie, The Avengers for shooting next year. When to be exact? February. Where? Los Angeles of course.

Director Joss Whedon is on the helm and I think the screenplay should be fully ready this Fall too, although on the current development, no details about the story has been revealed yet. There is no doubt that The Avengers has become the anticipated film ever since Nick Fury jumped in Tony Stark's house explaining his ambition to recruit the latter into the project Avengers (the last scene after credit in Iron Man, remember?) But with the February shooting, is it too early? Considering that at the date of shooting, both Thor and Captain America have not released yet thus making water tasting among the fans and audience could be difficult.

THE TRAILER FOR SKYLINE IS VISUALLY STUNNING

Comments
One of the unknown film that will making some splashing on the cinema later this year has to be this. Recently revealed at SDCC (Comic-Con), Skyline is a science fiction thriller directed and produced by the Brothers Strause. It was written by Joshua Cordes and Liam O'Donnell, starring Scottie Thompson, Eric Balfour, Donald Faison, and David Zayas. The film is set in a Los Angeles high rise where a small group of survivors brave a mysterious attack of otherworldly origins. Alien spaceships hover above the city and begin using light to attract then swallow human beings.

Brother Strause - Colin and Greg Strause are otherwise the dynamic duo behind many amazing VFX movies like The X-Files, Titanic, 300 and X-Men: The Last Stand. Their last film directing credit was unfortunately have been AvP: Requiem which sucks big time. But you have to admit that you may have fall in love with some of their effect works in those movies right? At the moment, Skyline is slated for 12 November release in USA while no words on local release yet. Yes, the stunning trailer is just below. Ready

BOX OFFICE WATCH 6-8 AUGUST, WEEK 32 OF 2010

Week 32/2010
US BOX OFFICE WEEKEND 6-8 August 2010

The reign of the hit mindbender Inception at number one may have ended. Sony's cops buddy comedy The Other Guys finally unseated the three weeks throne of Inception by debuting at $35.6 million to top the US Box Office. The Other Guys which stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg is yet another venture between Ferrell and director Adam McKay and it represents one movie that Ferrell should not add into his misfire flops. Unlike last summer's big flop Land Of The Lost, The Other Guys powered with decent reviews, represents Ferrell's second highest movie debut since 2006's Talladega Nights.

Inching down a spot to runner-up, Warner's sensational Inception lost only 32% from its last week's third week figure to settle for $18.6 million. Inception has experienced a steady 32% weekly drop week-to-week since its debut. Its total grew to $227.7 million in 24 days, rising to sixth place among the 2010 releases. If Inception can held on well, $300 million is achievable.

CASTING NOTES: UNTITLED VIKING MOVIE, THIS MEANS WAR, I'M.MORTAL, THE RETERAT

Comments
MEL GIBSON'S UNTITLED VIKING MOVIE There is no shocking news than this. Leonardo DiCaprio is set to do this movie with Mel Gibson in the currently developed Viking movie and most likely to feature dialogues in the period languages of Viking. However, the sad news is that DiCaprio has left the project and it was presumably due to Gibson's domestic abuse scandal. The movie is set to be Gibson's last directorial which based on a script by William Monahan. Now, is the project dead or we could see a new add-in soon to continue this. For those who have not known, yes, Mr Gibson is battling with the domestic abuse scandal.

THIS MEANS WAR The long planned 20th Century Fox's film This Means War has some shake up on the casting line up. We know that Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine have attached to the project with director McG (Joseph McGinty Nichol) on the helm. Latest news from Vulture has that Sam Worthington has no longer on the casting but has now been replaced by Tom Hardy, whom we have seen him doing great jobs of acting in Inception. This Means War tells about two spies who were friends but go to war with one another when they both fall in love with the same woman. Filming is expected to begin mid of September.
