Leonardo DiCaprio is set to star in the latest project by 20th Century Fox – a film adaptation of the popular 1964 novel by the late John D. MacDonald. – The Deep Blue Goodbye. According to Slash Film and EO, DiCaprio will take on the role of the main character Travis McGee, a tall bachelor whom faces anxiety and financial woes and works as a “salvager” in Fort Lauderdale in Florida. This film will mark the debut of the ever influential 21-book series by MacDoanld that has been widely success back in 60s and 70s.
The plot for The Deep Blue Goodbye will revolve around treasure buried in the Florida Keys during the Second World War, while it also feature a murderous felon and an eventual final showdown between the two. The screenplay was written by Dana Stevens (For The Love Of The Game) while no director has been attached yet.
The Deep Blue Goodbye is one of the first projects being set-up at Fox by the new CEO and chairman Peter Chernin.
Although no news of further casting or filming has yet been announced, we shall wait for more from the production team. At the mean time, enjoy DiCaprio’s performances in 2010’s Shutter Island (by Scorsese) and Inception (by Nolan)
