Cover of Serena: A Novel
Angelina Jolie has recently announced her departure from Timur Bekmembatov's Wanted 2 and tarnished rumor about her involvement in Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity. According to The Hollywood Reporter, as picked up by Empire Online and Slash Film, she is indeed interested in a period drama called Serena by Darren Aronofsky (The Fountain, The Wrestler)Serena: A Novel was a 2008's novel written by Ron Rash and it tells the story of a man named George Pamberton who takes his new bride to the woods of North Carolina in 1929 to start a timber empire. Serena soon finds her footing in the wilderness and, Lady Macbeth-style, starts pushing her husband to more ruthless acts. And then the real horror starts: when she discovers she can’t have children, she decides to murder the son her other half fathered illegitimately.
Christopher Kyle was reported to have penned an adaptation which may need to polish the script a bit more before it can go into production. Aronofsky is currently on post-production for Black Swan while Jolie is busy shooting The Tourist in Paris with Johnny Depp.
