News on April Fool's (serious by the way) has that David Fincher has confirmed that he is directing the US version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The rumour has been circling around the project following the monstrous hit scored by the novel and the Swedish movie in the European market mostly. It seems that The Playlist has confirmed that the director will indeed taking this project to be his next following his Facebook founding story, The Social Network.
The US-style will be produced by Scott Rudin with Steve Zaillian (Schindler's List, American Gangster) to write the adaptation, under Sony Pictures. No one has been attached for the role Mikael Blomkvist or Lisbeth Salander yet, although there are rumours suggesting Carey Mulligan would be up for the latter role. Fisher is seems to be more than happy to have a relatively unknown actress to begin with.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is the first of three crime novel written by the late Stieg Larsson. Although he passed away in 2004, the three novels, collectively known as Millennium Trilogy were only published in 2005. The trilogy instantly becoming a hit, landed him a posthumous best-selling writer. The Swedish film adaptation was released in 2009 with a rave review. While now, it is apparent that there will be an American version for it.
