FOREIGN CINEMA 2010 (JANUARY - APRIL)

Foreign Cinema 2010 is a page reserved for reviews on Asian films or non-English language films released nationwide in 2010. Unlike the Hollywood productions which will continue to receive full descriptive reviews, the author has chosen to give a single sentence review for the Asian films and non-English language films because of lack of time to update old reviews that has been accumulated since CNY.

It is not our desires to belittle the power of such movies but due to the recent events, the author find it hard even to update reviews here. While in times, some of these films will be featured on the main page as well. For example, Malaysian production Tiger Woohoo received full review back in early February. With the creation of this page, the author would like to express its continue support to Asian and other foreign films because of the growing pattern and likelihood in challenging the Hollywood production in terms of quality and critics. Therefore, all titles mentioned here are eligible to be included in our Top Movie of the 2010 Countdown.

True Legend is Yuen Woo-Ping's misfit adventure's take on the legendary tale that misfires all over the place with the lack of imaginary story but he is king maker that brings in an amazing cinematography and kung-fu sequences.

Jackie Chan's film is usually bad when he is making fool of himself and this should be around it albeit slightly better. Has surprisingly entertaining movie with good character stories and plenty of good tricks and action coordinations.

14 BLADES (Cantonese)
Story – 3.5 stars
Casts – 4.0 stars
Cinematography – 3.5 stars
Effects – 3.5 stars
OVERALL – 3.5 stars
GREEN-TEA-O-METER: 14.6

An okay movie that revolves around a high secret society of Imperial Guards of China, highlighted by a tingling story but extravaganza display of martial arts that redefine a new experience on the other end.

CONFUCIOUS (Mandarin)
Story – 3.0 stars
Casts – 3.5 stars
Cinematography – 4.0 stars
Effects – 3.0 stars
OVERALL – 3.0 stars
GREEN-TEA-O-METER: 13.2

A sloppy and slow story but true to the book adaptation of the Grand Confucious, a refinery art and idiomatic democracy that sharps the existence of Chinese civilization on a brighter note.

DEAR GALILEO (Thai)
Story – 3.5 stars
Casts – 4.0 stars
Cinematography – 4.0 stars
Effects – 3.5 stars
OVERALL – 4.0 stars
GREEN-TEA-O-METER: 14.9

A feel good road buddy tale that estranged the horror fame from Thailand and this chick flick is outstanding with lovable characters and contains interesting subject manners about friendship and relationships.

WOOCHI (Korean)
Story – 2.0 stars
Casts – 3.0 stars
Cinematography – 3.0 stars
Effects – 3.5 stars
OVERALL – 2.5 stars
GREEN-TEA-O-METER: 10.7

The story is a trash, non-founding and lack in commitment to stay along the fantasy adventure norm's going. The pace is uneven and no coherent idea that really impressive albeit the great effects going throughout the movie.

IP MAN 2 (Cantonese/Mandarin)
Story – 4.0 stars
Casts – 4.5 stars
Cinematography – 4.5 stars
Effects – 4.0 stars
OVERALL – 4.0 stars
GREEN-TEA-O-METER: 16.9

Ip Man 2 continues the same remedy that makes Ip Man extremely brilliant, although the recycled theme of revenge and avenge are still tickling heavily around the plot. Nevertheless, the film remains compelling and outstandingly remarkable.
