Sony Pictures' undying vampire franchise, Underworld has a continuation. That continuation has now been given a name, a synopsis and directors to helm with. On Twitter, Sony Pictures has also announced that they are looking forward for new castings, albeit the old Selene will be back in the fourth movie.
I still love the first Underworld movie, which features the fierce and bloody battle between the vampires and the werewolf clans of Lycan (Lycanthrope in shorts). That was in 2003. In 2006, the much uninspired sequel arrives and then in 2009, Sony Pictures brought audience back into the mythology origins with a prequel - that was very boring.
Now comes a fourth movie and Sony has announced to be entitled Underworld: New Dawn. Kate Beckinsale who once has waning interests on the franchise has reportedly will be reprising her role as Selene. New Dawn will be a new entry into a new trilogy and according to Bloody Disgusting, the premise of the new premise will be as follows:
In the meantime, Sony has announced through Twitter that they are looking for female teens at the age of 18 and above to answer their casting call, presumably for the role of Nissa. So far, we only know that Kate Beckinsale is back while the rest we are not so sure.

After being held in a coma-like state for fifteen years, vampire Selene learns that she has a fourteen-year-old vampire/Lycan hybrid daughter, Nissa, and when she finds her they must stop BioCom from creating super Lycans that will kill them all.It sounds very peculiar and cliche that the studio may wanted to introduce a young protege in the forms of a daughter. It is however interesting enough that we might have more story in the franchise to come forward. I loved the first movie, given its icy gothical looks and very in-depths into the mythology stories about the vampire and werewolf entanglements. With the Swedish directors Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein taking over the director duties from Lens Wiseman and Patrick Tatopoulus, we hope Underworld 4 would be a bright start to a new trilogy chapter in the franchise.
