The Marvel Studios is currently busy making the holy grail pathway in leading to the ever-anticipated The Avengers movie which will due in 2012. We can expect all the titans will be there - Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye and of course Captain America. While there have been headlines on the possibilities of another Iron Man sequel post-The Avenger, it will definitely not directed by Jon Favreau.
Things started when Jon Favreau posted this on his Twitter approximately seven hours ago. (I followed him):
Now we all know. Jon Favreau will abandons Iron Man 3 for another Disney lifelong dream project of his, Magic Kingdom. In an interview with LA Times, he revealed that it has never been about money or lack in cohesiveness but reinstate that he will continue to serve as the producer of The Avengers movie and remain close to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.
When asked about his decision, he stated that the main reason for his departure was to “find something that lights a fire” inside of him as a filmmaker and gives him a chance to “blow people away, which is easier to do with a project that isn’t loaded with built-in expectations.” What ever his decision, I wish him luck for the future ahead. While I have no doubt that Marvel would find a suitable replacement for his job for handling Iron Man 3.
With his departure for Magic Kingdom, Favreau will join the likelihood of other Disney's brand new wave of productions, like the new 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (David Fincher currently slated to direct) and the new Haunted Mansion film, will be directed by Guillermo del Toro. All of the premise titles were based on the popular Disneyland's theme-park properties.
Favreau's next directing project will be coming next year. Cowboys & Aliens is currently at post-production. Watch the trailer here if you have missed it. That mash up genre between sci-fi and western is intriguing after all.
