RINGER (CW)
Season: 01 Episode: 01 (Pilot)
Original Air Date: 13 September 2011
Director: Richard Shephard
Writer(s): Eric Charmelo, Nicole Snyder
Running Time: 40 minutes
Synopsis: Bridget Kelly (Sarah Michelle Gellar) witnesses a mob-style murder and although FBI Agent Victor Machado (Nestor Carbonell) assures her of her safety, she escapes to New York to hide out and moves in with her estranged twin sister Siobhan Martin (also Gellar), who is married to Andrew Martin (Ioan Gruffudd), a shady hedge fund businessman. When Siobhan mysteriously disappears, Bridget decides to assume Siobhan's identity to hide out from both the FBI and the Mob, but in so doing she will soon discover shocking secrets about her twin sister's life.
Mini-Review: 'Ringer' marks the return of Sarah Michelle Gellar into the small screen after years leaving Buffy behind. The return is a psychothriller drama 'Ringer' about the tale of two twin sisters with dark past of their own. On some positive notes, Gellar's tri-performances as Bridget, Siobhan and Bridget-attempting-to-be-Siobhan are divinely amazing, crafted with strong, divisive and illusive at best. The plot is cleverly marked with two distinctive halves that excite audience with intensity and complexity. The first half is a mere introduction while exploring the character Bridget, a fugitive-cum-murder witness who takes over the identity of her twin sister Siobhan; assumed to be dead. The next half is the true portrayal of the drama's direction. Over the last 20 minutes, the plot increases its pace by bombarding audience with plenty of twists; both shocking and psychedelia. If there is some discomfort, it would have been its noir setting. Perhaps, even worst, the premise itself sounds absurd on its superficial.
Verdict: 3.5/5.0 - Will keep watching!
