We heard a lot of stuffs recently including Marvel Studios re-titling the Thor's sequel as Thor: The Dark World. We also heard some list of potential villains been thrown into the mix while Loki is back for personal redemption from the All Father. We definitely know now that Game of Thrones' director Alan Taylor is directing the sequel. With all the casts from the first movie return, the movie has added the main villain (sort of) in the form of former Doctor Who series' Christopher Eccleston. Screen Rant reports that he will play the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim's leader, Malekith the Accursed.
Details are still sketchy with Eccleston is in the final talk to accept the role. For those who are not familiar with the villain role, Malekith is one of the most formidable enemy of Thor. Malekith possesses superpowers like any other normal dark elves; with additional superhuman intellect, strength, speed, stamina, durability, agility, and reflexes. In other words, he can teleport, projects fire energy and shape-shifting among others. However, his weakness is - iron. Just like how Superman is vulnerable to Kryptonite.
It is now believed that Thor: The Dark World will take on the same story arc from the comic where Malekith uses the Casket of Ancient Winter to plan to freeze the Nine Realms. Another giant piece of related character will be another villain called Surtur which is definitely tied to the story arc. We will have to wait at the moment to see if Surtur will make some appearance in the movie.
Thor: The Dark World will stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, and Stellan Skarsgård, and Christopher Eccleston for November 8, 2013 release.
