Disney D23 Convention is nothing but another place to announce the next news. Captain Jack Sparrow will receive a fourth outing. Officially slated for release in Summer 2011, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will be the next journey. If you remember the ending from At World’s End, Jack Sparrow having been abandoned by The Black Pearl, embark in a solo journey to search for the legendary Fountain of Youth with a piece of puzzled map he obtained.
However, what far more enticing is that the movie will based on Locus-Award winning novel by Tim Powers of the same title “On Strangers Tide” back in 1988. The novel’s protagonist is the puppeteer turned accountant John Chandagnac who while on a trip to confront his nefarious uncle about some dodgy family business, is waylaid by pirates and ultimately ends up captaining the crew.
“Powers' novel will obviously require some re-fitting to replace Shandy with Sparrow (if that's the plan), but the rest of the book is incredibly well-placed to slot fairly effortlessly into the POTC mythos (it even has an insipid heroine that you kind of wish would bugger off). “ – EO
