The recent interview with The LA Times on the set of Fringe, as directed by JJ Abrams and co-producer Roberto Orci had them to talk about the sequel of Star Trek.
Currently the duo of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are writing a draft that will be completed by the end of this year for Paramount Studio. On the interview, no revelation about plot details been released, but there are some indications of the tone and direction that Star Trek 2 may be taking.
"The first movie was so concerned with just setting up the characters that in many ways a sequel will have a very different mission. It needs to do what Gene Roddenberry did so well, which is allegory." - JJ Abrams
"We're starting to circle around some ideas. We got a lot of critical response from the first one, [so] we're trying to keep [the sequel] as up-to-date and as reflective of what's going on today as possible." – Roberto Orci
When The LA Times asks about torture and terrorists and politicised Klingons, Orci's response is "Those are the kind of issues we're talking about... That's the way we're thinking."
So it is clear that allegory will play a large role in keeping the sequel very much alive and unique on its own. The interview conducted with The LA Times has hinted that the sequel may talks about some story as inspired by Guantanemo Bay. It is just a possible but let us see when the plot of the movie is been clarify and revealed then.
