They will be making a movie about Berenstain Bears. And I heard YES!!! and NO!!! around now.
As I can remembered, The Berenstain Bears appeared on every home's bookshelf as one of the favourite children series. Not that I remembered any of it but the fact that Shawn Levy (Cheaper By The Dozen, Night at the Museum) has his sight on the project.
Levy is signed to produce but no words on whether he will direct or not. Depending on certain circumstances, this movie may be a mixture of CGI and live-action in the end.
The four bears, Papa Bear, Mama Bear, Brother Bear and Sister Bear (we're saying they might need names before the cameras roll) live in a house in a tree. In the books, they live in Bear Country surrounded by other bears.
Levy described the project to USA Today as, "The comedy comes from this bear family coexisting in a more recognizably real world."
According to EO, the studio, Walden, is aiming for a release date late in 2011, which would be pretty fast-moving for a film starring four bears given that there is currently no screenplay, no director attached and (presumably) no finished concept art for the bears themselves.
