"The three musketeers" by Alexandre ...Image by cod_gabriel via Flickr

With the success of Sherlock Holmes at the box office, it looks like the man behind that movie, producer Lionel Wigram will in fact lead another charge to headline another classic tales from Alexander Dumas' The Three Musketeers. He already has hired writer Peter Straughan (The Men Who Stare At Goats) to write a script treatment for the big screen adaptation.

Variety stressed that the movie will be appealing the young blood, packed with sexy and action aspects. The swashbuckling mingling about three musketeers - Athos, Porthos and Aramis, join forces with D'Artagnan to forge a sword fight against Cardianl Richelieu and his evil plan.

However, there is no words on whether this is a remake or a return. Back in 1993, we have Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, Oliver Platt and Chris O'Donnell played the four friends in The Three Musketeers. That 1993 title was directed by Stephen Herek went on to gross only US$ 53.9 million at the US Box Office.

Oh, in case you are referring this version with the one that I have reported back in September last year about 3D plan by Paul WS Anderson, no, this is not the same one.
