According to Pajiba and Empire Online, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer's Imagine Entertainment together with Sony Pictures (Columbia) are now targeting the movie as a likely candidate. The 1985 comedy original did not fare that well on the box office but remains a beloved cult classic about the adventures of college students figuring out their own intellects while simultaneously being duped by a slimy professor into working on a laser project that will be twisted into military uses.
15 years later, the remake is a possibility. If this work, Real Genius will joined the huge army of 80's adaptation trend including Clash Of The Titans, The Karate Kid, A Nightmare on Elm Street and many more. But many of the adults above 30 love the original but what would it be if a remake is to be done? Damaging? Its too early to say though but I will love to watch the original one if it is so interesting after all.
Meanwhile, the involvement of Val Kilmer is still unknown although there used to be rumors about a sequel!!
