Week 32/2010 US BOX OFFICE WEEKEND 6-8 August 2010 |
---|
Settling on runner up spot with a great outing too was Eat Pray Love, a romantic comedy which Sony Pictures has adapted from the 2006 memoir by American author Elizabeth Gilbert, about the author's trip around the world after her divorce, and what she discovered during her travels. Eat Pray Love collected an estimated $23.7 million and that gave Julia Roberts her largest debut since America's Sweethearts in 2001. That topped Julie & Julia's $20 million first weekend last August and if the movie played in a similar pattern like the Meryl Streep's leg, it should be yet another $100 million worth of money for Sony Pictures.
Scott Pilgrim is the top trending topic on twitter but all the internet buzz did not translated into a proper cash sales. Scott Pilgrim vs The World did only a modest $10.5 million which is less than the launches of Kick-Ass ($19.8 million) and Zombieland ($24.7 million). This represents Universal's yet another failure to make some money for themselves with Despicable Me been the only notable exception.
