The slow weekend we have just gone by, saw the US Box Office welcoming two brand new openers that opened to different target audiences - Bridesmaids and Priest.
Marvel's 'Thor' held well on the box office to reclaim the throne once again despite dipping 47% to $34.7 million to bring its ten days cum to stand at $119.5 million. But the big winner of the week was Universal's Bridesmaids which raking in an outstanding $26.3 million to give the studio another champagne popper for the year. The Judd Apatow's produced and Saturday Night Live's Kristin Wiig anchored the first of what could be many hit comedies into the runnerup spot, averaging a strong $8,995 from 2,918 locations. It came handy as the Hollywood is expected to take a rest from weeks of endless male-fueled testosterone fair and the brilliant critical reviews helped the numbers too. Universal reported that 67 percent of the movie's audience was female and 63 percent was over the age of 30.
Opening in fourth place, Priest raked in just under $15 million with Scott Stewart directing and Paul Bettany starring. This is a reunion from last year's Legion but Priest ended up raking an opening lower than Legion's $17 million take last January. Priest bad reviews was not helping at all but the Sony's stylish PG-13 vampire pic still managed to score an average of $5,221 from 2,864 locations. Distributor Sony Pictures reported that Priest's audience was 57 percent male and 57 percent over the age of 25.
