SDCC 2012: THE WOLVERINE, MARVEL'S ITEM 47, THE BOURNE CONTINUES

COMIC-CON UPDATES

#1: JESSICA BIEL JOINS THE WOLVERINE

We just got word that 20th Century Fox has officially signed Jessica Biel (you will see her in the upcoming remake - Total Recall in two weeks time) into The Wolverine. Earlier this week, Fox has been pressing forward with the production of The Wolverine as they have announced quite a number of castings ahead of the planned production later this year. Addition of Biel is intriguing because the official word has that she will play Viper aka Madame Hydra, an imminent character from the X-Men universe. According to the comic universe, Madame Hydra will eventually "blackmailed Wolverine into marrying her as a means to secure her criminal empire in Madripoor" and "and worked alongside the Silver Samurai." Madripoor is a fictional island in Singapore, serious!

No plot confirmation yet but The Wolverine is set to adapt from the early Marvel comics arc by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, which sees Wolverine traveling to Japan. The Wolverine is slated to go in front of cameras this August, shooting in Japan and Australia. The film will hit theaters July 26, 2013.

#2: MARVEL REVEALS ITEM 47

In the recent weeks building to Comic Con, we heard something over the Marvel Studios plan to develop Item 47 project. Now what is Item 47 you ask? It is a Chitauri gun - yes, the alien race trying to invade our world and was successfully fended off by The Avengers. Following the final battle at New York, a total of 47 Chitauri guns were recovered. Now, to coincide with the release of The Avengers on Blu Ray and DVD this September 25, a short film about Item 47 has been made. Marvel even released the poster which you can view below. Coming Soon has some details about Item 47:

The short itself runs 12 minutes and stars Jesse Bradford and Lizzy Caplan as Benny and Claire, Marvel's answer to Bonnie to Clyde. They've recovered one of 47 Chitauri weapons left behind after "The Battle of New York" and have decided to use it to go on a bank-robbing spree. Maximillano Hernandez returns as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Sitwell and we're introduced to Titus Welliver's Agent Blake. They've been tasked with bringing in the fugitives.

#3: MATT DAMON ON POSSIBLE BOURNE RETURN

Matt Damon

Comes August 9, the Bourne franchise will branches into a parallel story line with Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner) telling his side of story about the same dirty operations running inside the CIA that shaped the story of how Jason Bourne run and come back to take down the whole operation. During the ongoing Comic Con 2012, Matt Damon who was part of Sony's Elysium panel, talked about the possibility of his return into the franchise as part of the possible cross-over between Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross:

I really want to do another one and I think Paul Greengrass does too. But I think it's the same question we've had after each one. If we really feel we can do it and that it will deserve to live with the other three that we did. If we can make one where we go into it feeling it can be even better than those, and it ends up being in that same ballpark, then we should do it. But If we can't, then we really should leave it alone.
I talked with Reno about this before. It seems subtle that such crossover between this two characters in some point of the Bourne franchise. It will be either both are working together or going on each other; but the important point is that we know that Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross are not alone in this situation. With new characters been introduced in this one, including the one played by Edward Norton; it may or may not mean that the ending in The Bourne Ultimatum is absolute. While the new movie is not assured if it will lead us into a new trilogy, Legacy in many ways has helped to expand the story in one way or another. If indeed this becomes a success and more Bourne movies are underway, the next installment (if you go by the Bourne's novels order) will be entitled The Bourne Betrayal - which makes the crossover even more making sense.

The Bourne Legacy will arrive in cinemas on August 9, 2012.
