Walt Disney according to the Facebook page has announced that the upcoming Rapunzel is now known as Tangled.
According to the producer Roy Conli, the change of the title was made to adapt the different approach taken on the story. It was described as a really fresh, smart take on the Rapunzel story.
"In our film, the infamous bandit Flynn Rider meets his match in the girl with the 70 feet of magical golden hair. We're having a lot of fun pairing Flynn, who's seen it all, with Rapunzel, who's been locked away in a tower for 18 years," added Conli.
Rider is voiced by Zachary Levi (Chuck TV series) while Rapunzel is voiced by Mandy Moore. My guess, why the sudden change of the title? Rapunzel is a marketable princess story but they may want to expand the market beyond the feminine, thus Tangled, a neutral name for both gender?
