Several months ago, Green Tea Movie reported that Disney has shot down the possibility of the new update of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea which will be done by McG. The production which costs $150 million was halted following the departure of then-Disney president Dick Cook.
6 months later, the project springs up back to life again. McG is not directing since he already have commitment elsewhere with This Means War with Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine on lead roles. No McG, but Disney has found David Fincher. However, I would like to note how busy this guy is - having post-production duty on The Social Network and rumoured to begin the next one on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, I doubt that this project may kick start soon.
It is understand that Disney is trying to pull in Fincher and writer Scott Z Burns (The Bourne Ultimatum) for the project. Apparently this project was assembled properly by Disney's new production head, Sean Bailey, whom had Fincher interested regarding his ideas about the new adventure of Captain Nemo. No scripts yet so expect this will be materialize later.
