Today, Slash Film posts two new image stills from the upcoming Zhang Yimou's picture about the Nanjing Massacre. Of course, the infamous 1937 incident otherwise also known as the Rape of Nanjing depicted the event when the Japanese army arrived in the capital city of China, killing hundreds of thousands of Chinese civilians and soldiers, raping some 20,000 - 80,000 of women and looting the priceless items from the city of Nanjing. It has go down as one of the worst genocide and war rape in the history. The history drama is only one of those countless movie that sets the brutality of the Japanese in the land of China. We have last year's 'Shanghai' that works more like a CIA intelligence drama and we also have the 'Children of Huang Shi' few years back.
Speaking of Zhang Yimou's version in which Christian Bale is working before he suits up the Batman suit in Pittsburgh for The Dark Knight Rises, both team up in a film called The 13 Women of Nanjing (previously known as Nanjing Heroes). Here, we have two image stills where Christian Bale is playing a priest in the film:
The film is based on Liu Heng's screenplay from Yan Geling's novel of the same title. The book tells the story of thirteen prostitutes who stepped in for female university students who were to be taken as “escorts” for the troops during the period when nearly 20,000 women and girls were raped and killed by the Japanese troops. Christian Bale’s priest shtelters some of the prostitutes and students as the Japanese attack is ongoing. Slash Film has been calling this as one of the biggest productions ever to be mounted in China. The 13 Women of Nanjing is expected to be released in December this year.
