RAY STEVENSON IS JOINING G.I. JOE 2

Paramount's G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes will begin shooting shortly in Louisiana but it would be timely for the John Chu-directed sequel to add in another cast into the expanding list. In line with what we already perceived about having a bunch of mostly new characters for the sequel, albeit with only a few of the casts from the original movie are returning, Ray Stevenson (Thor, The Punisher) is added into the casting, playing a villanous role Firefly. Hit the jump for more details.

It seems only a month ago when Dwayne Johnson is added into the film as Roadblock and French actress Elodie Yung as Jinx. Last week, Adrianne Palicki was cast as Lady Jaye, RZA as Blind Master and D.J. Cotrona as Flint.

According to Screen Rant, Stevenson's character Firefly "is a martial arts master who’s well-renowned for his skills in the area of stealth, infiltration, and explosives. His true identity is kept a secret, even from his boss Cobra, and Firefly generally works alone on high-profile covert missions that call for his deadly talents." At the moment, all the rounds of casting look complete but there are still some pivotal roles to be filled in. For instance, there are some rumors that Bruce Willis may be handling Joe Colton.

With a largely new cast, new director (Chu) and Zombieland duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernicke now tackling scripting duties, Cobra Strikes should be an improvement over its predecessor. To be honest, John Chu has managed to pull out something for the sequel. What appears to be an unwanted sequel may looks like one of the most anticipated when it comes out next year on August 10, 2012 with an endless stream of decent actors attached to the movie.
