Lionsgate's production for the adaptation of Suzanne Collin's worldwide smash hit novel, The Hunger Games has now going into a full swing with the announcement of double cast lead, as published on Latino Review and Screen Rant. The Hunger Games, a young-adult science fiction novel is the first of the Hinger Games trilogy, set to be an introduction into the post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem. In the book, the Hunger Games are an annual televised event where the Capitol chooses one boy and one girl from each district to fight to the death. The Hunger Games exist to demonstrate not even children are beyond the reach of the Capitol's power.
Recently, Jennifer Lawrence was casted as the heroine and main protagonist Katniss Everdeen into the 74th annual Hunger Games as the male tribute chosen from their native District 12, the most remote and marginalized district of all the subjugated districts of Panem. The character Peeta Mellark will be played by Josh Hutcherson, for whom we have last seen him in The Kids Are All Right. Liam Hemsworth, in the meantime, will plays Gale Hawthorne. He was last seen in The Last Song.
“The Hunger Games” chronicles a dystopic Capitol which requires its twelve subjugated districts to pay tribute in the form of a teenage boy and girl, forced to participate in the annual “Hunger Games,” a fight-to-the-death live televised event. Katniss Everdeen’s little sister is chosen in the lottery to participate and Katniss volunteers to take her place. Although persevering through hardship is commonplace for Katniss, she must start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love in order to win the games and return home.
The film will be directed by Gary Ross and will start production pretty soon. The Lionsgate production will release on March 23, 2012.
